b> IPods are the most popular MP3 player used. The Apple product is compatible with Mac computers and PCs as long as the appropriate programs are used. In order for an iPod to be used, it must be recognized by your computer. At times you may need to do a bit of troubleshooting, but overall, this is an easy task when these steps are followed.
Download iTunes from Apple for free. ITunes is the program needed to use an iPod. The download is safe and will not give your computer a virus. Plug the white connector cord that came with your iPod into the iPod and into the USB drive on your computer. Open iTunes if it does not automatically open when you plug the iPod into your computer. ITunes should automatically recognize your iPod. Unplug your iPod from the computer. Move the toggle reset button at the top to "hold" three times. Then hold the center button and play button to restart the iPod. Repeat steps one through four. If iTunes does not recognize your iPod, unplug the iPod from your computer. Let the battery die. Charge the iPod and plug it into your computer. The computer should recognize the iPod. http://www.apple.com/itunes/
is it recognized in itunes? sometimes you have to reset your ipod by holding down the middle button and the menu button. or in some ipods its middle button and play pause button
Try resetting your iPod to reset a ride on classic do the following
Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
you restored your ipod correct? (just the music is erased) not format ? (ipod is zapped)....ok..lets play with the restore part...plug up ipod to pc....do not open itunes (close it, x it out) ...go to my computer you should see a new drive on it (ipod)....double click ipod and copy the software (from ipod) it should be 4 folders and hidden files too...paste it to a temp folder on the pc....now right click ipod drive and format it (yes this will erase everything on it)...once format is completed reinstall the software from the temp folder back to ipod......now this is finish....update itunes to the newest version (even if u have it already overwrite it)....you now have a brand new ipod...........
in the beginning i ask if you restored or formatted (if you had formatted, you would not find nor see any software)......you would be better off asking a friend/family if they have the same ipod can you copy just the software (you would copy their software to a temp file, then on to yours same as above) .........i hope this works out for u.....feel free to rate the help
There are two 5th gen iPods, A1136 model is the older 2005 model, not the later 2006 model.
Here is Apples link: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353#ipodfifth2 which will show the differences, but not by model number. The reason I know this model number is the first 5th gen 2005 is because I have one. Also older 2005 should have '2005' engraved on rear.
ok, A software is use to download songs to your apple ipod colled "itons" so, first download the software from the above link and than install tham to your computer.
Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press
and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the
Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this
step.
Tip: If you are having
difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the
finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click
wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the
outside of the click wheel, and not near the center. If the above
steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the
power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your
computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to
sleep.
