I have an Oreck air purifier model (air 4000). The power light is on but the fan will not turn unless I put it on high speed and manually push the fan to give it a jump start for it to start running but very slow. Please advise.

I tried that solution and it did not work due to the worn bushing. I went on line to CSH incorporated and ordered #534 Open Ventilation Fan & Blower Duty motor. The motor is a ball bearing motor rather than bushing, and is an exact replacement for the Fasco motor on the original. The repair is easy and a cheap repair at cost of about $67 dollars for the motor plus shipping. The unit now works great again.

I have an A260 which looks identical to this model and uses same charcoal filter. If the fan is the same as mine and can be accessed from the bottom by removing the four foot pads, you can unhook the 4 wires from the terminal strip and remove 3 screws to remove the blower. To remove the motor you must loosen a set screw on the cage fan shaft coupling (mine was a torx screw) and then remove the mounting nuts. On the top of the fan motor should be 4 snap retainers holding the top cover on the motor, remove by prying the top inside of the clip up and then remove the top cover and pull out the armature. Clean the shaft on both ends, clean out any old dry grease in the bearing housing on top and bottom, clean out the sleeve bearings with a Que tip and solvent. Repack the bearing cups with grease and also liberally wipe grease on the armature shaft where the sleeve bearing contacts the shaft. Reassemble motor and fan assembly and check for free spin.
Your fan should run like new for a couple more years..... provided your bearings and shaft were not worn excessively from lack of lubrication...... Mine have been running fine for 8 years now!
