When I sew with the regular portion of my Designer One, all is fine. I've been using the embroidery attachment and when I embroidery a simple design, the top looks great, but the bobbin thread is sooo taut that if it gets cut, the bobbin thread just pulls out very easily. I've tried a different type of bobbin (polyester) and it is actually worse.

The bobbin tension sounds ok if regular sewing is ok. The upper tension unit may be the culprit in that there are loose threads or fluff causing the discs not to tighten enough for embroidery. The best solution is to have it serviced by an authorized husqvarna viking dealer. You can locate a dealer near you by visiting the husqvarna viking website and clicking on the Dealer link on the left-hand side of the page - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com
Good luck.

Does the Husqvarna Designer SE use the Designer 1 embroidery arm?

The embroidery arms are usually machine specific. I had to label two Husqvarna embroidery units for my neighbor. She had mixed up which embroidery unit went with which machine. She was about to take the machines to the repair shop after the units failed to properly connect to the the embroidery socket on the machine she tried to use. Once the correct embroidery arm was connected to the matching machine, the unit worked fine. (One of the machines was a Designer 1. I'm not sure about the second.)

The largest hoop available for the Designer SE is 360 x 350 mm. The compatible hoops are listed here: https://www.husqvarnaviking.com/en-US/Accessories#.947 .

I hope this helps.

Which software extensions can be used with a Husqvarna Ruby embroidery sewing machine?

The Husqvarna Designer Ruby can read a number of embroidery file formats: .SHV, .DHV, .HUS, .VIP, .VP3, .PEC, .PCS, .SEW, .JEF, .EXP, .10*, and .DST. One other embroidery file format is accepted. See the manual. It can read the .SH7 stitch format files and .VF3 embroidery font files. It can also read .HTM/ .HTML and .TXT files. With the complimentary 5D software (or a similar package), you can convert most other embroidery files to one that is compatible with the Designer Ruby.

The documentation for many Husqvarna Viking sewing machines is available here: http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/Support . The manual and other useful information for the Designer Ruby is here: http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/support/DESIGNER-RUBY . The current link to the manual is http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/SiteMedia/Products/Machines/Support/Designer_Ruby_manual_ENG_A.pdf?ext=.pdf . The file extensions are listed on page 9:2 (page 100 of the PDF).

I hope this helps.

(I will admit to mostly using the .HUS files with the Designer Ruby.)

I have a viking designer 1. When I put the embroidery arm on the pressed foot will not stay down. But does stay down when regular sewing arm is attached.

When embroidering, the presser foot hovers above the fabric a few millimeters. The machine does this automatically.

My Husqvarna designer SE embroidery unit keeps giving an error message "install hoop correctly". I've checked everything but can't get around the message. can anybody help ,?

You have probably got the machine set to use a different size hoop. Click on the hoop icon and change it to the size you are using. Hope this helps you.

My Designer I embroidery does not match up, ie: the stem is stitched and the flower or leaves are not embroidered to appear as attached to the stem.

How far off are they? If they are way off, you have a problem with the embroidery arm either it is bumping on something as it sews out, or needs repairs. If they are only a little off, it is a hooping and/or stabilizing problem. Go to Embroidery Library, Designs in Machine Embroidery or the Floriani websites and check out their tutorials.
