My Nokia 5310 also wouldn't charge; pocket lint had become trapped in the charging hole, and was packed down over time. I used a very thin straight-pin to gently scrape the lint out of the hole until I could see the gold-colored metal pad at the bottom (using a very bright flashlight and small dental mirror to direct the light). That took about 20 minutes. Now the charger plug slides all the way into the port and clicks into place. Tip: Be gentle, that center pin will break if you try to use something fat, like a safety-pin or a toothpick. -- John Dollison, Colorado.
If you can wiggle the charger and it starts charging, then it is the phone. It is a very bad fault in these phones and as time goes on they like to charge less and less.
My solution to this was more simple than I thought it would be - squeeze the end of the charger tip VERY slightly with pliers. It should be a slight oval shape and will fit SNUGLY in the charger hole. If you crushed it too far, it wont go into the hole as the outer diameter of the plug is too large. Dont despair! Simply rotate the pliers 90 degrees and squeeze it slightly the other way. Be VERY gentle - the metal is soft and easy to bend. Once it is a correct size, you should be able to push it in there and it will work like a charm.
Good luck!
