I believe the Metz does not have a hotshoe, does it?
You should be able to buy a hotshoe adapter with a pc socket and direct the Metz PC cord to the hotshoe adapter. These are very common peices and can be purchased in most any camera store.
The trigger voltage of Metz 45-CT1 Ser No above 534 000 are under7V, that is absolutely safe. But below this Ser No that can be anywhere around 200. This not necessarily means the flash will damage the camera, but consult the user's manual. If you were intended to ask how to connect the flash to the K20 D, then you can use a hotshoe-to-PC adapter.
No. You can only use the camera in manual mode, setting the shutter speed to, say, 1/125 sec and the aperture: according to the working aperture on the flash. The flash has to be in auto mode. The physical connection between the camera and flash can be either a standard PC cord, originally supplied with the flash plus a hotshoe-to-PC-female "cube", or an SCA305a cable plus an SCA301 standard foot. Of Metz 45 series only the 45CL4 Digital together with an SCA3102 M4 module is dedicated to the Canon EOS digital series.
