If your 2nd DVD burner is on IDE interface, you may need to get an IDE to SATA cable. Please refer to the picture below as to how it looks like:

Hi,
There are usually two types of ports or connectors coming with DVD burners IDE and SATA.

If your DVD burner having IDE port , get an IDE cable and connect the dvd burner to IDE slot of the motherboard mostly there will be two slots available in the mother board.
Or if you have SATA port in your DVD burner get an SATA cable and connect it to your motherboard SATA port.

Good Luck

Likely you have a newer system which as SATA connectors. These are thin cables about 3/4 wide. If so, youll need your 2nd burner to be SATA and not IDE.

My HP desk top is almost a year old. The dvd/cd burner is a real pain. Regardless which program CD are burned with they are indicated as successful burns, but in playing them the songs are chopped up,...

There probably is no way to fix this. If it is the problem, getting and installing a new cd drive is very simple. You can buy a new drive here: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=600&name=Blu-Ray-Burners&Order=PRICE. To remove the old one, all you need to do is open up the side, unscrew the one or two screws holding it to the case and unplug the two cables that are attached to it. The install the new one, slide it in attach the cables and put the screws back in. It is as simple as that and should work just fine after that. If you don't need the Blu Ray part of the drive you can always save some money by buying one of these instead: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=5&name=CD-DVD-Burners.

Need drivers

a disk drive does not need to have drivers installed. they are built in. if your system does not recognize the drive you have a problem.a few things come to mind and i will list them in order of easiest to hardest to fix.
1 make sure the power supply connector and the ribbon wire are correctly and FULLY plugged in.
2 look at the ribbon wire to it (the widest one) see if it has blue plugs or black plugs. if it is blue you must make sure the jumper on the back of the drive is set to CS (cable select) this will let the cable decide if it is master or slave. it decides this by which plug is used.
if it is black you must manually set the jumper to either MA (master) or SL (slave). if it is the only thing hooked to that ribbon wire select MA. if there is another drive hooked to that ribbon wire, see what that is set to and set the new drive to the other one. fir instance if the other drive is the master this one must be the slave or vice versa.
your most likely problem is the jumper is set incorrectly. but the others are easier to fix. just push the wires on better. lol.
hope i helped.

How to install a new dvd burner into the sony desktop pc PCV-RX755(UC)? How to take out the old DVD rom and put a new one in ? Thanks ...I don't know how to open the hard drive...

You don't want to open the hard drive. Just open the cover to your desktop PC; have a philips screwdriver handy, and then go in, unscrew or un-snap (depending on the situation). Carefully remove the ribbon cable and power connector. Your old drive should just slide out. (Note: You may have to remove the front facade to your PC before the old drive will slide out.)

Once the old one is out, just slide the new one in and reconnect power and data cables. Re-attach front facade if it was necessary to remove (I have a hunch it needed to come off), restart Windows. Your OS should let you know that it has detected a new device. From there, make sure you have Internet and then put in that you want to search the internet for a driver for the new drive. If one is not available, just use the one that came with a CD-ROM that you should have received with the new drive.

Hope this helps.

Hello , I just installed a philips cd burner to my tower machine. I know i installed it correctly I mark all the cables. I have a windows XP operating system . The burner I installed will start up and I...

A few things you can try:

Carefully check that the ribbon cable is firmly seated in the IDE slot on the motherboard.

Perhaps try a new ribbon cable.

Hook up the burner by itself (unplug the power and the ribbon cable from the other CD) Make sure that the burners jumper setting is for cable select or try master and also make sure that the burner is at the end of the ribbon cable not in the center connection

Hope this helps.

Won't reconize DVD burner

Well, the CD ribon cable goes into the IDE 2 slot on the Mainboard and the furthest connector on the other end is the master, the second one closest to the board is the Slave connector. The CD drive has a jumper on the back between where the ribbon and the power connector go, on the case some where it should have a diagram showing the jumper setting to put it in as master or slave. Set it accordingly.

Same with Hard drives.

If the Hard drive has a diferent Cable like a SATA, then be sure to get a SATA as the new one.

Now the IDE cables may be bad check them for damage just to be on the safe side.

Roxio 8.0

You did not state either  the type of computer or the type of cd/dvd drive. It could be either an IDE-ATA or and S-ATA, so I am going to guess that you are removing the old CD on a PC and installing the new cd/DVD. If an IDE-ATA (That is the one with a whole lot of pins that a ribbon cable attaches too) thge look on the back to make sure that it is either set to cable select or Master. After hooking the wires and screws ,just like the old CD had attached, close the case and start the computer.  At this point it would act exactly like a CD burner. You must install DVD burner software not to use it as a DVD player /burner. Install your ROXIO and  you should be ready to go.  If I missed anything or misunderstood just let me know. Good luck.

Can you try installing the new burner as a slave and the zip as the master?

Had a pc once that refused to boot at all with a new DVD burner in it, alongside a DVD-ROM. The burner was replacing a CDRW drive, swapped the drives master and slave settings over and it worked.

How to install a dvd burner

First you shutdown your computer, then disconnect all power cords. I don't know if you have a tower or a deskpro, with the tower just slide the panel out pulling from the back, you may have to remove a piece from the front with a tower. Pay attension to how your cd rom is hooked up, I don't know if this is a combo (cd/dvd/RW) if it's a combo, if it is a combo you would have to take out the old drive and replace with the new, just pay attenion to how the old drive is hooked there should be two cords to connect to .  If there separate drives there should be an empty bay.  Let me know how your doing, and if I can assist you more.........Thanks, Heidi
