Confirm the park brake is off. If a hydro-static drive tractor starts but engagement of the operator controls for the transmission drive results in neither a forward or reverse drive of the mower itself, the operator should check that the manual bypass controls have not been left in the activated (bypass) position.
Look in to where the lever connects and confirm the movement. You should be able to hear the hydraulic oil with a slight whine as you activate the drive forward pedal!
See page 18 for bypass setting?

This probably has shredded paper in front of the sensor. You will need to clean out all of the shreddings that have build up on the sides and in the cutter compartment. Make sure to unplug this before you start though. Takes a good half hour to get this all out and you will have to use something like a long screw driver to get to it all.
There is a paper sensor at the throat of the machine that turns the machine on when it is activated by the paper when the paper is inserted. Something has happened to that sensor. Unplug the machine and remove the shredder head from the basket. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws at the bottom of the shredder head and open the shredder head. Look where the paper is fed into the machine and you will see the sensor. It may be unplugged/wire broken/sensor flag broken off... You'll know what to do when you identify the problem.
I got mine to work by running it on reverse for a moment then sliding it to auto. It stopped. Then I did it again. This time auto ran just for a second then stopped. I did it a third time but I had a sheet of paper ready in the feeder. Ran on reverse. Slid it to auto and it took the paper and shred it. I did it a fourth time. Reverse slide auto and feed shred the paper. Fifth time Auto shred the paper without reverse. :)
Yes small shredders don't like to shred metal.
You have probably blown the pcb inside the machine...would need to know make and model to provide further access for parts.
I have the Infoguard SX100M Axeus, sold by Staples. Only the reverse was working, UNPLUG and open back cover, the paper mechanical switch was working fine, red side switch, the gears and fuse were all ok, I think something on the circuit board was fried. I switched the BLACK and WHITE wires with each other going to the shredder motor, thus when I switched it to reverse, it would go foward and shred. Its working now, only in reverse.
