This is because there are either remenants of a previous AVG install on the system, or another Anti Virus.
I would go to http://www.avg.com/tools#tba2 and download the following tools:
AvgRemover
resetaccess
Run AVG remover first, followed by resetaccess.
Then set Windows Explorer to show all files
Search for and delete ANY AVG ot Grisoft folders you can find.
Reboot
Install AVG

This is a common problem on the AVG site. When this happens, either try to download the program from the link that directly downloads from the AVG site, or go to the CNET site and download it there. If that fails, DOWN load and save the AVG program, go off line, and install it that way. Usually one of these work arounds will get you the free AVG
