Dell E176FP Monitor Stuck in diagnostic mode??

Dell E176FP Monitor is in ''forever'' self-diagnostic loop. It runs a checkerboard pattern, then a multi-colored squares pattern, then some sort of vertical colored bars pattern, and I think horizontal colored bars pattern, and then a full screen two-part blue that looks like a wave of slightly different shades, etc.. and seems to be running through some preset screen patterns. The problem is.. you can't turn the power off while it is doing this! It does it whether connected to the computer or not.. all you need to do is plug it in.. you can turn it off temporarily if you move it, then plug it in.. the patterns come up, then you can turn it off..ONCE. If you turn it back on again, the patterns come up again, and then you CAN'T turn it off!.. except by pulling the plug. What's up? Is it ''toast''? Need a new one? It's useless at this point. It never stops running those patterns! HELP!

See if the set has some sort of reset button. If none do a hard reset on monitor to hopefully clear the cobwebs in monitor electronics and see what happens.

SOURCE: Different color test patterns keep cycling .

This could be a computer or monitor problem. The reason that display shows up is because the monitor is not getting a power good signal from the computer. If a monitor doesn't get a power good signal it goes into test mode. It could be the monitor has a fault that is not allowing it to detect the computer, or the video card or computer itself isn't functioning properly. If you can, hook the monitor to a computer that you know is working properly. This will tell for sure if it is the monitor or not, and eliminate that possiblity. Then you will know if it is the monitor or computer. If the computer is the problem you'll need more help troubleshooting it.

well that could be because the screen is going bad. you might want to get another one or take it in to get it fixed, no more than 100 to fix your screen.

It doesn't show red color. i tried to do factory reset. but still problem.

1.After turning on the projector, press "+" and "-" buttons on the control panel
simultaneously for 3 seconds and release the buttons when screen goes blank.

2 Press "+" and "-" buttons again to exit the diagnostic mode.

3 While in Self-diagnostic mode, the screen will run a seven-color-cycle test as
following:
Red--> Green--> Blue--> White--> Watchet Blue--> Dark Green--> Yellow.

Ensure that the colors of the test pattern are correct.

Contact Dell if the colors are not displayed correctly.

Monitor displays a window stating it is doing a self test, 2. digital input. The rest of the window has the RGB bars.

Does this happen eveytime you turn the monitor on ? If so, check that you don't have a button on the monitor that has got stuck in.

Dell172fpb 17" monitor

Self-Test Feature Check (STFC) Your monitor provides a self-test feature that allows you to check whether your monitor is functioning properly. If your monitor and computer are properly connected but the monitor screen remains dark, run the monitor self-test by performing the following steps:
  1. Turn off both your computer and the monitor.
  2. Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer. To ensure proper Self-Test operation, remove Analog (blue connector) cables from the back of computer.
  3. Turn on the monitor. The floating 'Dell - self-test Feature Check' dialog box should appear on-screen (against a black background) if the monitor cannot sense a video signal and is working correctly. While in self-test mode, the power LED remains green and the self-test pattern will scroll through the screen continually.
  4. Turn off your monitor and reconnect the video cable; then turn on both your computer and the monitor.
If your monitor screen remains blank after you use the previous procedure, check your video controller and computer system; your monitor is functioning properly.

Dell P1110

Hi, The part where you see some color bars and blinking green led is what we call MONITOR SELF TEST. A diagnostic pattern consisting of four colors (red, green, blue and white) appears, and the LED flashes slowly. this happens when signal cable from the monitor is disconnected from the tower and leaving the power chord for the monitor plugged in. If the monitor works properly on a different computer. then its a problem with the computer's video card sending out signal. im 85% sure that its a problem with your video card.
