  • 8500A defect May 27, 2011

The HP Officejet Pro 8500A is a defective product that needs to be recalled by HP ASAP. All unlucky and unsuspecting consumers who bought this piece of junk (thinking the HP brand still stood for quality and good service) need to be given immediately a full refund or offered another equivalent and non-defective printer as a substitute. Otherwise, HP could and should be facing a class action law suit. I've received one defective unit to replace another defective unit. (I saw a comment from one customer who ahd received four defective units!) Now HP "support" in Mexico is saying this unit was not made for the Caribbean where I reside and so they're not able to offer any support.

When i try to instll HP Office PRO 8500 A909 Series I get this message: "The operating system on theis computer is not supported Current OS: 601.64 Supported: Vista6Bit, Vista, Windows XP"

There are two version or program.

32bit/64bit

If not happy playing around to find which version you have installed.

Go to Hp and download the automatic program that finds which HP items you have, making sure the printer is turned on.

After a few mins, it will come up with the right program ie 32/64 to download.

If not, download the each program seperately. Its time consumming and boring, but at least you rememder which prog you are running 32/64

From what info you give I think you are running 64bit, so try downloading the 64 version remember to download the complete version, and yes it does take a little time. Goodluck.

I put in a new black cartridge, but the note keeps coming up to replace the empty cartridge. Then it goes to "cancelling allignment". When that is done, I'm right back to the empty cartridge...

At a guess I would think you have the wrong cartridge?

I had a 8500. Decided to upgrade to the A909 Wireless.

Having keep my supply of replacement 8500 catridges used to replace empty, that's when it came to light. Though similar, the chip it set up for A909 wireless printer.

It is a little known fact, if you are not careful when ordering, buying for the 8500 there are "TWO" seperate cartridges specs. Yes I was caught.

When puchasing make sure it is "WIRELESS" .

The non wireless 8500 usb cartridge yes fits but as you have found out fails to be recognized.

HP are naughty but then its all profit for them.

This is the most likely solution.

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8500 all in one printer. My magenta doesn't print. I can't print anything with red/pink in it. Can you help?

Try another cartridge first, making sure it is located properly in its seating and is the right spec.

You may not know, 8500 non wireless cartrigdes do not work in wireless A909.

Are you talking about replacing the cartridge at the left side front cartridge compartment or the printer heads under the scanner lid?

Printer said it was out of one of the inks...I replaced it and it still shows it is empty. I looked inside and it appears to have leaked in from the cartridge into the printer. The cartridge is still...

You may have bought the wrong replacements.

You have to ask for "WIRELESS" A909

Shops are not always aware the the 8500 usb non wireless cartridge chip is not compatible with the Wireless A909 They are exactly the same cartridge but crafty HP change the chip specs.

Sorry, yes they caught me to.

I just bought a brand new HP 8500A all in one printer and it printed out a test page during the calibration/installation stage of the setup and after installation it now says install cartridges. I have...

There's good chance they are not the right ones.

Shop assistants are not all that keyed up on their products.

The 8500 Non Wireless Cartridges will "NOT" work in the A909 Wireless.

Yes they look the same and yes they will fit in the compartment, the "CHIP" is differant.

Good old HP.

Shop around online for cheap suppliers but make sure you only buy HP A909 Cartridges.

I've gone through the correct steps to change the ink cartridge and it still tells me to replace it.

I would make a guess you have the wrong cartridge!!

You must be sure to purchase HP A909 Wireless Cartridges.

If you have been sold the 8500 Non Wireless Cartridge (s) they will not work in the Wireless. The Chip is setup to malfunction. They are not interchangable.

My Officejet Pro 8500 won't scan, although it did fine originally

It won't scan unless the HP scanning software is loaded and running on your PC, it needs to know where and how to scan, which is the scan options. It will scan and make a copy if you press copy, but it won't scan when you press scan unless that software is running.
