Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs. To get fixed either call in a local TV repair company or goto sites such as Tv Repair Kits to get a repair kit with instructions. Got new STK392-040 chips and picture is still distorted. Manual convergence still won't alligne all colors.
the 183 is entry into the tech menu===you need to test all the low value resistors around the convergence chips(only 6 or 8) and they will read low and a resistor with NO reading may be your problem.

Also these sets use a pico fuse going to each chip--either right with it or back at the source----know what a pico fuse looks like"

My rear projection television is showing a double picture with the blue out of allignment. It also shows a bow on the top and a bow on the bottom.
The tv have a problems known as a convergence problems,tv convergence board it is dead.Tv have R,G,B colors lines mis alignments,have colors pictures shadows or 3D pictures look alike?Yes.The tv convergence board it is dead.Must require replacing 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all of it resistors too.To fixed the tv convergence board to solved the tv picture convergence problems.The tv shop,will cost u like $300-350 for parts and labors.

The colors are unalligned and the picture is blurry
hello,,the deffective part of your tv probably the convergience ic,it is a 2 pcs big ic with heatsink mounted on the mainboard you can replace it with a new one..or try to adjust first the allignment of your cathodes the RGB cathodes..on your front pannel there is a convergeance manual allignment button use this button to allign the convergeance..on your remote control there is also an allignment command consult your manual for the command .after the adjustment you must save the adjustments before exit the convergeance adjust..if thris adjustment do not work replace the convergeance ic ..mostly the ic is labeled STK XXXX..

Red color allignment
The convergence Ics need replaced. In Toshiba, resistors and sometimes a coil needs replaced as well. The convergence/deflection PCB is available, but, the cost of that board is higher than having a servicer come to your home and repair the unit to component level. If you are not familar with this circuit, then call a servicer. Have them replace both ICs not just one. Make sure they are repairing to component level and not replacing the board. Hope this helps.
