OK you are probably going to think I am loony giving you this advise But No I am completely sane!

Get a can of compressed air OR acces to a compressor at your local garage Get them to fit the triggered air blower tool to it.

Blow around the lens in all the extension joins the firmly slap it in the palm of you hand with the side of the camera making contact with you palm. Do the procedure two or 3 times and in between the slaps turn it on to activate the lens mechanism. I have now fixed about 80 of these cameras with this method. I obtained the fix from Sony who charge $90 to do exactly the same. Keep at it as it will eventually work. One tip, make sure the battery is charged before you do this.

Please rate my help++++Thanks for using FIXYA

Sounds like the card needs to be formatted in the camera. This will erase it so download any pics first.

Hello

Thank you for using FIXYA!!!

This is a suggestion. If you do not feel comfortable trying it, you will need to take the unit to your nearest service centre. Feel free to let me know if you need any assistance.

The problem might be that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair centre for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance. Also, please be so kind to let me know if you found this helpful.

Regards
Andrea

Error 00

Always when an error occurs, switch off the camera. Wait till the memory access light stops burning or stops flashing (If it did)
Then remove the battery. This will be a signal to the camera, to start all over again, when the battery is placed back and the camera is switched on again.
In your case, the camera indicated an error with the lens, or the connection with the lens.
Carful remove the lens, as described in the manual. Check is all contacts are clean and intact and of course shiny. Just a spec of dust could be the culprit. Place the lens back and look and feel if it lock correct. Then try switching on the camera again.
If you are not sure the battery is charged completely, before placing it back, charge the battery.
Then reinsert the battery and hope the error does not come back. When the error comes back it is time to contact a service centre.

I have a Nikon Coolpix L22. I was taking a picture and all of a sudden I got a lens error message. now, yhe camera is totally dead.

If the camera will not turn on, you probably have a bad battery. Replace the battery with a new one and try again. It is possible that the battery was almost dead when the lens tried to adjust and this may have caused the lens error message before the battery completely died out. Else you will need to send the camera in for repairs.

R09 shows up when I try to take a picture. Cannot access preview screen. Camera seems frozen.

R09 or R07 etc. is not an error message. In Nikon lingo ERR is the one you need to worry about. The RXX refers to the approximate amount of shots left in the buffer in the camera. Not a ptoblem. You may be trying to take pictures faster than your memory card / camera buffer can handle.

You can try a fster card like 266, but you may find that the camera is also your limitattion.

If you make no changes at all, the camera buffer will eventually clear and you can again takes pictures.

Camera will not shoot a picture

The F-- error means the Auto Focus in the lens can't communicate with the CPU in the camera. Because you also have problems with the flash not popping up, I'm not optimistic that you can fix this yourself. Odds are high that you will need to send it in for repair.

The F-- error could be caused by many things. First, try removing and replacing the lens - the contacts between the lens and the camera may not be connected properly. Also try shutting the camera off and removing the battery, then replacing the battery and turning the camera back on (rebooting the camera) as this sometimes helps. If neither of these help, the next step is to remove the lens and carefully (CAREFULLY) clean the contacts on both the lens and the camera. Gently rub the contacts with a clean pencil eraser and hold the item upside down over a table so that any debris from the eraser will fall onto the table rather than into the camera or lens.

If none of these fix the F-- error then you may have a hardware failure in the camera body itself. If so, the only fix is to send it in for repair - you can't access the interior parts of the camera without special tools that only the repair facility has.

I have error 99 in my camera canon 400d

Error 99 is a general fatal error.
which includes the problems above mentioned by Q4SteveB but also many others.

It can be caused by a dicky shutter, problems with the CF card interface.

If cleaning and trying a different lens has not worked. Not definitive but as a rule of thumb...
If it letting you take one picture then giving error 99.. and the picture is saved to the card (but may just be black) this is most likely the shutter needs replacing..

If it takes a picture and gives error 99 but there is no picture on the card or the picture is 0KB its a CF interface problem.

If you get an error 99 when you plug in the USB its a USB interface error, you can try a different cable but unfortunately in most cases if another lens or cable wont work it needs repair
