Remove the access cover on the bottom of the case that houses the heatsink, wireless card and RAM memory. No components have to be removed to remove the cd drive. Now look at the cd bezel and then back toward where the RAM memory is installed in thier slots. There is a screw marked by a circle with what looks like a wedge taken out. This is the holding screw for the cd player. Once you remove this screw, there is agap next to the screw hole that you can stick the screwdriver in and push the cd player part way out of the case. Once you do that, grip the front of the drive and pull it free of the case. Refer to page 60 of the service manual I have included the link for below. Make sure you have a PDF file reader like Adobe or Fox-It Reader.

If the drive is clicking, it is probably broken inside and should be replaced. The link above will show you how to do this and should also have links to replacement parts for your computer

Can't get he dvd to work on my acer 5100 after xp installed

You may need to Flash the bios with the bios.
Going from Vista to XP on Acer 5100
The acer website site for the 5100 series located here http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5100.html

You can get all the XP drivers for your 5100 series there. Bios also. If the upgraded bios does not fix it then go to control panel, system, device manager, hardware and uninstall the dvd player all together. reboot. If this does not fix it go to the dvd players web site and download a FIRMWARE UPGRADE FOR IT make SURE IT IS THE RIGHT FIRMWARE FOR YOUR DVD PLAYER. Match all numbers and letter that id your drive. Good Luck. Please rate me.

Acer 5100 lost dvd/cd drive

Is the DVD drive listed in device manager under CD/DVD drives at all? If so, remove it and reboot. Windows might be able to re-detect and reinstall the drivers for it, but odds are the drive is bad. You can try removing the drive from the computer, and use compressed air to blow out the area where it connects to the laptop. Also check the connection on the DVD drive to make sure there isn't any physical damage, bent pins, etc.

Hope this helps - remember to rate!

Removal of cd/dvd tray from acer aspire 5051

Look on the bottom of your laptop on the side where your cd drive is. There will be a screw that is centered with the cd drive, about 6 inches in. It should have a "lock" symbol next to it. If you take that screw out, the cd drive will be allowed to slide out then. You might need a screw driver to help pry it out though.
