Use a lense puffer from a camera shop to remove any dust these can be reasonably cheap , This is by far the best and only non contact way to remove dust from the lense, by no means touch the lense at all with anything,.... even the tip of the puffer.
If this does not work you need to replace the laser head/drive itself which is fiddly and time consuming and i would only recommend it if you are very technical.
You can buy spare drives on Ebay and there are instructions on how to strip your psp down on the web.
Be warned the whole PSP has to be totally stripped down to do this and i would not recommend it unless you are feeling very brave and have a watch makers eyesight!!!! (and watchmakers screwdrivers and an antistatic wrist strap and mat).
My PSP has done exactly the same thing after 12 months, i feel Sony has some reliability issues
with this drive as i have heard from many more people with the same problem, plus there does seem to be loads of these replacement drive assemblies on Ebay.
Hope this helps but its most likely a return to Sony for repair.

SOURCE: psp lens

If it is the lens you may have to clean it with a cleaning disc or some compressed air, providing the games you are using aren't damaged. Aside from buying a new one there isn't much else you can do.

SOURCE: psp

psp viruses are very rare, and i'm talking about 1 in 1000000000000, yes noticed all the zeroes so yeah no virus. What could have happend is that the start button internally is jammed up. So you might want to try to contact sony on this one unless you want to go ahead and play with it inside. But its your call.

My PSP doesn't seem to read the UMD's I put in...no icon shows up under the game symbol on the mian menu...please shed some ligt on this for me. thanks

make sure the UMD is not dirty or scratch or damage in any way. make sure the lens is clean. if your psp is able to read other UMD's then it would mean that the UMD is damaged. if PSP is not able to read other UMD's then you would need to get the lens replaced.

My psp wont load games anymore

The simple reason might be
1) your cd is having damaged surface.  Try to put a good cd and see whether that cd is reading or not.
2) you are not cleaning the lens of the PSP with cdrom cleaner cd. Try to clean the lens with help of lens cleaning cd which is available in the market   3) your PSP lens is damged. You have to take the PSP to authorised service enter to check the lens. If lens is damaged then your PSP will not read.
1&2 solutions you can do my yourself. But 3 issue then you have to visit service center... all the best...

Psp umd problems

Clean the lasers lens with Glass Cleaner and a cotton swab. Do not use Alcohol, it will damage the lens. Also, I know they have UMD disc cleaner on Ebay. Another thing is to open the Internet explorer and click on the toolbox and delete cookies and offline files. This also may free up memory.

UMD Icon Not Showing Up Under "Games" in menu

You've cleaned the disks but have you cleaned the laser? That'd be the next step before looking @ repair options.
