Rick12, Vg2 is a detector used by law enforcement to detect your detector.lol I hope thats not too confusing. Basically, what it does is sniff out your detector after it goes off. If your detector "smells" the VG2 searching, your unit shuts down so as to not put out a signal to alert it(vg2) Kind of like a stealth mode,,
Here's a report on some of the popular ones;

What does VG2 mean

It is a radar detector detector. So if you are running a radar in a state where it is illegal, this technology can detect the presence of your radar detector and you can be pulled over and ticketed. This is done by detecting the local oscillators and other "RF leakage" from the radar detector.
Sometimes you may notice that when you are near another car with a radar detector, your radar detector may go off. There are situations where your own radar detector can detect leaking RF energy from another detector in a nearby car.

Can the p olice detect a ew 3100 is on in your car

I would probably say vg2 no, spectre yes. This unit is decent, in fact i really like the 1-9 and how accurate it is with the proximity. I have a $450 detector that is horrible at judging the distance to the source of the radar. Anyway it has been my observation that this unit irritates other detectors more so than others, which is a sign of a leaky detector. Also if it detects pop, i noticed that the pop is always on, and the falses on pop are very minimal compared to other units..

Questions

Ku is a band of radar used in some places by law enforcement. It is not used everywhere and can be a pain if it goes off for no reason. I recommend consulting your manual and turning the Ku band off if it is not used in the area in which you live. This will enable your detector to become more reliable for when you are being "zapped" by law enforcement

Pop is a way of using radar where the officer turns his radar on and off quickly. As a car approaches, they will turn the radar on long enough to get a speed reading, then immediately turn it back off to avoid detection by civilian radar devices. Some of the newer models of radar detectors have a feature which detects pop radar.

Every electronic device emits a frequency. Vg2 is what law enforcement use in states where radar detectors are illegal to identify whether a car is using a radar detector. The newer version of vg2 is called spectre and accomplishes the same thing. Some radar detectors can pick up on vg2 and spectre so the owner can turn the detector off before they are detected by law enforcement.

Radar codes

VG-2 is a technology that police use to detect radar detectors. Detectors with this feature will detect when VG-2 is in use, and alert you to its presence.

AND

the x,k,ka codes you see flashing are......

X, K, and Ka Superwide are the radar bands that are used by police radar guns. X band was the first band used for by radar guns, but is now the least used. All radar detectors that we carry detect all 3 of these bands.

Help!

If you live near a cell-phone tower, your radar detector can pick up on the waves coming from it. If you like in an area where radar detectors are legal and Ku band is not used, I recommend turning off the vg2, spectre and Ku bands on your detector. This will not only cut down on some of the "noise" but also make your radar detector more reliable for when you are actually "zapped" by law enforcement.
