ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS AND VIDEOS TO A COMPUTER
If your photos and videos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos and to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

You will need to check your manual for download instructions not all cameras are the same however, if you have the camera software installed try following this work flow.
First make sure your camera has enough power to complete the download, turn off the camera plug the USB cable into the USB port on the computer then the mini USB on the camera. If you have been turning the camera on this may be part of the problem a lot of cameras use the playback button to transfer pictures from the camera to the computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Windows Photo Gallery or any other photo cataloging program.

Try different USB port.
Try different USB cable.
Try external card reader.

If no luck pls. refrase your problem.

I have the HG20 that had the same problem. I called Canon support (very nice) turned out that I was using the USB port on the front of the computer. Disconnected and used the USB port on the back of the computer (motherboard) now everything is working fine. Apparently there is a USB hub problem when using the front USB ports. Hope this helps.

This is usually because the USB cable is shorting. Looks like an issue with the internals of the camera

DO YOU HAVE A USB CORD ?
IF SO, THEN ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE STEPS :

1.)PLUG IN YOU USB CORD INTO THE LEFT SIDE OF CAMERA THE SMALLER END INTO THE CAMERA.
2.) PLUG THE LARGER END INTO THE COMPUTER ..THAT MAY EITHER BE THE BACK OF YOUR COMPUTER OR THE SIDE.

3.) ONCE YOUR PLUG IN WAIT FOR SOMETHING THAT MAY SAY DOWNLOAD PICS.
IF YOU AHVE WIZARD CLICK ON ADVANCED USER ITS A LIL EASIER.

4.) READ ALL OF THE INSTRUCTIONS ITS VERY SIMPLE. MAKE A FOLDER FOR YOUR PICS WITH YOUR NAME. DONT FORGET TO SAVE THEM AND YOUR GOOD TO GO.....LAST BUT NOT LEAST TURN YOUR CAMERA ON.

Another call to the US Tech support, different technican, and the problem was solved. We did not have the docking station plugged into an electrical outlet. We had the Archos in the docking station, and turned on, but it needs the extra power apparently from the AC. Problem solved! Was able to download photos direct from the camera to the Archos with the USB.

hi i had the same problem ......then i tired pushing the usb cable all the way in the camera which is difficult as of that flap thing but that worked !!!! hope this helps

I'm assuming a Windows Machine (98 or 2000), and that you have (known to be) working USB ports. Boot your computer. Plug the computer end of the USB cable directly into the computer USB port (not a hub). Turn off the camera. Plug the camera end of the USB cable into the 3000. Then turn on the 3000. Windows should recognize new hardware. When Windows asks about drivers for the new hardware, direct it to your Camedia CD. Probably directory \USB\Win98 (or 2000) or something similar. Windows should then load the driver automatically. I *don't* think the 3000 will show up as a Drive device in My Computer. I think only the 2040/3040/E10 models will. But, Camedia should see it now. Toward the left-hand side (center) of the Camedia screen you should see a camera icon. Click it and it should open directories, drill down till your pix appear as thumbnail images. If Camedia says it can't find the camera, select Edit/Options/Download from the Camedia menu and ensure that USB is the selected choice.
