Some network scanners have the ability to scan to PC's. I have the Brother MFC-465CN all-in-one ethernet network printer. This scanner lets me press scan and decide which PC to send the scanned image to.

If it is a USB scanner then I don't think this is possible.

Have you considered installing the scan tools on the other computers? Print sharing is a function of windows; assuming that the printer is not a true network printer. Windows does not have the ability to share scanners. But this is where the software can scan the network and find a HP scanner. Also some scanners can perform a "scan-to" function; but I believe the software need to be installed on the destination computers for this to work as well.

I need to make the scanner available on the network, the printer is networked OK but can't seem to figure it out. Can you help

Need to know what printer and how it's hooked up.
For instance, if it's an all in one printer (epson or HP etc) and it's hooked up USB to one computer and shared across the network, you can't share the scan capability across the network.
What yu'd have to do is scan to the computer that it's hooked up to, placing the scans into a folder that is shared across the network so anybody can access it.

If it's a network capable scanner with it's own Ethernet connection, then the process can be vastly different, but the scan function should be sharable across the network.

Go to your network and sharing center. Choose homegroup and sharing options. Change advanced sharing settings. Under your home or work profile, scroll down to file sharing connections. Switch to enable file sharing for devices that use 40 or 56 bit encryption. If that does not work, under password protected sharing, select "turn off password protected sharing". This is not recommended if you use your computer in multiple locations (laptop). I have found that turning all of these features off, running a scan from the printer successfully and then turning them back on, Windows seems to be comfortable allowing the printer to connect to the computer.

How to download driver for umax astra 5600scanner?

If you can't get the generic WIA (or TWAIN, depending on the scanner) driver to work, you have an alternative option since you have Win7 Pro. Download and install the XP Mode from Microsoft (it takes downloading two items). Install the scanner to the virtual computer that you have created. You may need to save images to external media to share them between the "two" computers.

(I assume you already tried installing the driver with the XP SP3 compatability mode.)

I hope this helps.

Can CanoScan be installed on two computers?

Most scanners including all-in-one printers can be shared acrossed a network. Hook up the scanner to one computer. At that computer, go into the control panel and to scanners (XP that would be printers and other hardware and then scanners). Right click on the CanoScan and click sharing. You can assign a name to the device. Go to other networked computer and add the device. You should be given an option to locate device on a network. Install the same driver and software you want to use with scanner.

Note: I'm not a Mac user, I've given instructions based on Windows XP/Vista. But, process should be similar.

Can I share my Scanner on a Local Area Network?

no, but what you can do is hook it up the computer and share that file to the network. for example, if you scan it, you'll have to use that computer to load the images to that file. and all the other computers on the network can see that file. you can do that. let me know if you need more info.

I have a different all-in-one but the tool used for scanning may be similar. When installing the printer, the MF Toolbox utility was also installed. If I want to scan multiple pages into a single document, I have three options for "Save as type". One is "PDF", another is "PDF (Multiple pages)" the third is "PDF (Add page)". I use the second option for multiple pages. Once the first page is done, a dialog box will appear and prompt me to insert the next page in the scanner and continue.

See if the tools installed with your printer have something similar.

Copystar cs 305 scanner is not connecting to computer

I do not know much about the situation but, I'll give it a try. First turn the pwr off to the scanner and try to ping agian just to make sure you are not trying to use an ip adress that is aleady being used. You should not recieve a responce untill you turn the power back on but, if you do get a reponce while the scanner is off change the ip adress on the scanner. Next if that did not help, you will need a correct path to your computer from the scanner like example( \\server\public\scans ) next you will need a username and password to gain access to the shared folder..
