Try to format it, if it shows a hardware error, replace the hard drive or the zen.

I am getting an error message that says a SMART error has occurred and my hard disk will fail. When I press more information it says SAMSUNG HM250HI has failed and may crash at anytime. Disk defragment...

SMART is the hardware monitoring system that is put inside every hard disk. If it reports that the disk has failed then it has really failed - there is nothing left to do, copy (and nothing else or it will completely die faster) what you still can from it and junk it.

SMART Hard Dish Error is placed on my screen

S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology; sometimes written as SMART) is a monitoring system for computerhard disk drives to detect and report on various indicators of reliability, in the hope of anticipating failures.

When a failure is anticipated by S.M.A.R.T., the drive is typically replaced and returned to the manufacturer, who uses these failed drives to discover where faults lie and how to prevent them from recurring on the next generation of hard disk drives.

Why my ibook cannot boot to desktop.but only stop at the grey apple display

What is happening is the mach kernel is hanging during bootup. This is likely caused by a kernel panic. Boot-time kernel panics are caused by the following things:
  1. A botched software update
  2. A badly behaving hardware device
  3. Flaky RAM memory.
  4. You are WAAAY too low on free disk space.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it says anything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior

If you can make it this far, it is likely that your hard disk and the majority of your computer hardware are functioning correctly and your issue is software related.

I regularly use Disk Cleanup, as you should, to help clean some of the 'junk' out of my system and free up space. However, there are a couple things listed here I do not understand and am not sure I should...

1. Queued Windows Error files are files that are stored so that if you contact Microsoft for support it can be read or provided to them for diagnostics. They contain the error codes and information for boot errors or application errors.. THEY ARE OK TO DELETE IF SYSTEM IS RUNNING FINE.

2. Archived Windows Error Reporting are just accumulated reports from the first type of file above. YOU CAN DELETE THEM AS WELL BY CHECKING ALL THE BOXES IN DISK CLEANUP AND SAYING DELETE ALL.

Hard Disk Problem

That failure is predicted by the SMART reporting system. Its a status chip on the drive that reports to apps that can read the smart data from the hard drive. Its not always accurate but it usually is.

Time backup your data on that drive ASAP and then buy a new drive.

Write delay slows computer and then stops

Please find the name of the hard disk drive, found on the white label on the hard drive. Ex: Seagate, Western Digital, Samsung ECT. Got to their web site & download their tools or drive setup utilities & create a bootable floppy disk or bootable CD disk.
Their dos like software will test & repair most hard disk problems. Back up you're personal data, picture, and address book ECT. & burn to CD before running software.
If it finds problems it will erase you're data to repair the drive. You'll find other settings you can turn on or off that may increase the drive speed. The slowness is all about the hard drive & not you're system. If you're lucky all you'll have to do is a fresh install of windows.

Good Luck!

Creative Zen Xtra hard disk problem

THIS WORKED FOR ME:

32. I bought one of these and used it on and of for 4 months. One day I got a "harddisk problem" and tried everything. Because I purchased in the US, Creative said that it was out of warranty but they would fix for £100. I looked around the web and found a thread that shows how to fix it. The solution, and this is a bit technical, is - seriously - to hit it on the right hand side very firmly on the right hand side with your hand whilst switching it on. It re-indexed and I've never had a problem since.
