If you try to burn this on a single layer DVD disk then you will get this error message unless your DVD burn program can compress the video so it can fit on a single layer DVD disc. OTHERWISE You need to upgrade your burner to a dual layer burner and burn your video onto a dual layer DVD disc.
Well all DVD+R mean that when you finish copying files to the disk, the disk will lock itself and not allow any more files to be burned onto that DVD. The reason why you can'f fit your movie onto the disk is because the movie file may be bigger than the amount the DVD disk can hold. Just because the time of the movie is less than what the DVD can hold, doesn't mean its going to fit. Take for example a Blue ray movie, it may only be 120 minutes long but the file of the movie can be over 2 GB of space.
That would depend on the burner drive and if it has dual layer support built in. Look on the front plate of the drive tray and look for DL somewhere near the DVD letters. If you see a DL then it will burn double layer disc. You would also need to have blank Dual Layer DVD-R discs. It will not burn dual layers on a standard 4.6 GB DVD it would have to be an 8.6 GB DVD. You will also need a burning software that has Dual Layer burning support.
Find, download, and install the latest "firmware" for the Sony DVD-writer -- if the unit does not recognize the special "tags" written onto the 1st record of each "blank" dual-layer disk, you need the latest firmware.
You may have to install some kind of DVD burner software such as Nero burning ROM to burn dual layer DVDs. the default windows CD burner does not recognize dual layer disks. You can also use this free software for burning dual layer disks http://infrarecorder.org/
First, be sure your DVD burner is capable of burning dual-layered discs-
Second, it may be rather an issue of copy protection on the disc. Have you succesfully copied commercial DVD's in this fashion?
I'm unsure if I'm allowed to mention any software that might assist you in that regard- google is your friend.
