Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
Is there a way to fix a blu ray drive?
There are not many ways to fully clean a laser lens on a cd/dvd/blu-ray etc. player effectively without taking it apart. However, there are the kits you can buy at local stores with the fine brushes that may knock away the dirt and get rid of the problem.
Another solution i have used it taking electronic contact cleaner, opening the drive and spraying it inside. This type of cleaner isn't supposed to leave a residue so the laser lens should be clean as a whistle.
But more than likely the laser is fried. Console systems lasers weren't meant to be used for constant use. Consoles read games and store chunks of data into cache memory. This way the laser doesn't have much use or strain on it. If you've been using it read movies it may have just reached it's half life and died. In this case check with sony about a warranty or search google for any possible recalls.
Other than that. There isn't much else i have to offer for help.
