Installed Vista now scanner wont work properly- won't scan to file or e-mail.

    Since originally purchasing my Lexmark 5150, I have purchased a new laptop w/Visat operating system. I can no longer scan to anything!

    I don't even know where my original cd is but probably in my "north" home in TN. I suddenly find myself in a project and deadline which will require me to scan .. most are pictures and need to save them as jpg files.

    HELP!!!!!!!!

    Same problem, and I tried the solution, but a message popped up saying there was a problem scanning.

    This worked for me for a short while (the using Windows) but now it doesn't work at all.

This is the response I got from Lexmark.

Thank you for contacting us regarding this matter. I appreciate the
opportunity to assist you, and I hope my suggestions will provide a
resolution.

The Vista drivers available on the Lexmark website do not contain the
All-In-One Center. They are minimum drivers. Although the scan drivers
are shipped with the web package, they cannot be used by the All-In-One
Center since it is not included. Please use Windows Scanners and
Cameras or Photo Gallery for Scanning.

Please follow the steps given below to perform the WIA scanning:

1. Click on "Start," and "Windows photo gallery."

2. Under "Windows photo gallery" click on "File" and " Import from
camera and scanner."

3. Select the "Lexmark X5150 printer" and click on the import button.

4. To begin the scanning process, click "Scan Now."

If you have any more questions or concerns, please contact me at your
convenience and I will be happy to assist you. (If I am not available,
another representative will reply to you as soon as possible.) To
respond, please select "Reply" in your e-mail software, and be sure that the
past e-mail is included in this reply.

Hello Carol,

The first thing you want to do is check to make sure the scanner driver is installed properly and working.

If you are running Windows XP or Vista; go to Start Menu \ Control Panel \ Scanners and Cameras
NOTE: For Vista user you must select "classic view" in control panel to see scanners an cameras.

For Windows 7; go to your Start Menu, in the "search programs and files" section (found below "all programs") type in "scan". You will see a result for View Scanners and Cameras.

Now you should see the HP scanner here. If it is not here then you need to reinstall because the scanner was not installed properly. If the scanner is here, right click on it and select Properties. (For Windows 7 you do not have to right click, you will see Properties at the bottom of the window).

In the properties select "test scanner". If this test fails, the driver is not working and you should uninstall and reinstall the HP.

If this test works then the driver is properly installed. HP should have provided you with some sort of scanning software, try scanning using that. You can also try scanning using Windows Fax and scan (for windows 7), Windows Photo Gallery (Windows Vista) or the Windows Scan wizard (Windows XP).

No driver for Canoscan FB 630U Vista 64 bit


Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Canon supports this scanner under Vista. Check if the Windows generic TWAIN scanner driver will work. The Canon software won't work. If the generic driver can be installed, then you should be able to acquire scans in Paint (File > Import from Scanner or Camera), Windows Fax and Scan (New Scan) (some versions of Vista) or Windows Photo Gallery (IIRC it works like Paint).

(Canon wants you to upgrade. I have a different scanner that isn't officially supported past XP and the generic driver works fine. Unfortunately, you can't just use the XP driver in the compatibility mode due to the lack of signed drivers that are required in the 64-bit OS)

I have installed scanner and disc but cannot find how to use it.I found the test box and that works but now how do I scan?thanks


Canon and other Scanners have both hardware and software buttons to scan documents and photographs.
Scanning with a computer is done with a destination in mind. So the buttons and the software are associated with destinations.
Typical destinations are File, email, Application, and print.
In a simple scan process for copy or print, the item is placed face down on the scanner, then the print button is pressed on the front of the scanner.
The software for the scanner pops up on the screen and the scanner moves the imaging light across the scanner under the glass, reading the item on the scanner. The software sends the image to the default printer and it prints a copy.

You will need to setup your preferences in the software so that a photograph is scanned properly and a newspaper article is scanned to come out clear black and white.
Documents are best saved as PDF files and photographs as TIFF files.
The software will have an expert mode where you can change all the settings and a beginner mode where you let the software decide.
Canon has a great document for your scanner. If it is not on the disk, here is the link. It is called CanoScan 4200F Scanning Guide. I think it will help you to use the scanner for any task.

I would scan whatever it is and then save it as a picture or whatever you choose and send it as a normal attached file.

However, the Windows Vista operating system installed on your computer includes a basic print driver. This driver allows you to scan an original and save it as an image using workaround methods. You cannot use the advanced scanning features that you might have used with your product before you installed Microsoft Windows Vista. Scanning an original and saving it as an image Follow these steps to scan an original document, and then save it as an image. Step one: Load the original Follow these instructions to load the original in the product.
  1. Raise the top cover of the product.
  2. Place your original print-side down on the glass.
    NOTE: The engraved diagram next to the scanner glass shows exactly where to place the document (usually on the right-front corner or the left-front corner).
  3. Close the scanner lid.

Epson CX6000 scanner doesn't work after installing latest Vista service pack


Suggest you go to System Restore and roll back to a prior date. That will "undo" your update, but will not change any of your files (Word, Excel, Email, PDF, etc.)

Click the "Start" and then type System Restore in the search box.

Visioneer 4400 usb scanner


here is my solution --uninstal the drivers form device manager unplug the power plug on back of scanner --go to visioneer website and get the xp driver for the 4400 scanner--save instead of running the download ---right click the downloaded installer and click compatable --make to run in xp mode and click OK--install the drivers as prompted when installed restart if prompted then plug the power back into the scanner----instal drivers as prompted --unfortunately --vista wont put the icon in my computer like xp does--the solution is to open program WINDOWS PHOTO GALLERY click file at top then import from scanner etc --the familiar page will come up with your scanner to preview or scan as you did before vista----this is the way i use it on vista home basic and i dont have any problems--hopefully you wont either

4. Save file. Turn on scanner and go into device manager and update the old minolta driver with this driver. You may have to manually update it.
5. Once installed, all the normal Minolta programs now work just fine. Enjoy!

I tested this on Vista 32 Ultimate with a Dimage IV but it should work on all the models listed in the .inf file.

HP Deskjet F380 All-in-One Compatible with vista


I had the same problem. I could print, but not scan.

However, if you open up Paint and go to file and scan, it will scan your document. For some reason, using the scan button on the printer itself will not work with Vista, but using Paint will. I also heard that using Windows fax and scan will also work.

i've upgraded my vista printer drivers and all and it still doesn't work ont he same model. i used to run this printer on a XP but working on seperate computer can be too crumblesome. since it's a plug and play on vista with this printer.. my solution is go to windows photo gallery. under the FILE - hit import scanner / camera. - it will auto read ur scan feature. but before that. just make sure u install a scanner onto ur windows . by going to control panels and set up scanner. - connect printer to computer first when u do that. it will rauto read ur printer. the drivers just owuldn't work but the windos software helps to elimiinate the problem.
