turn the computer off
now turn on and hold down the delete key until the bios screen appears
in the boot tab select first boot as the cd disk, install the cd for win nt in that drive
close down the cd and then restart and it will boot from the cd
BY reformatting the hard drive win nt you have wiped the win nt operating system from the hard drive
your hard disk is disconnecetedor loose . pls check the hard disk power cable & IDE or SATA cable. Then check BIOS hard disk detected or not if hard disk is not detected your hard disk is faulty.
Normally a bios checksum error is caused by a dead cmos battery. In a laptop that can be a pain - some are specialty batteries, some soldered directly to the motherboard, etc.
Start the laptop and enter the bois, there usually will be something to tell you what key to press, most of the time it is f2 or f10. Once in the bios set the date, time and boot order, then save and exit the bios. If it boots ok then try to determine what type of battery and it's location on the laptop to replace it.
If you let me know the make and model of laptop I will try to help determine that info and also where you can get the battery. That will more than likely be from eBay....
Hi Oliver, the most common error related to the message, (Bios Rom Checksum Error). Someone has left a floppy disk in the floppy drive. Once the floppy disk has been removed press the reset button on the PC, your windows will start normally. Next place to look is in your bios. Open your manual to page 27. Enter your bios & go to the title Advanced BIOS Features. Check First, Second & Third boot devices they should be as follows. Floppy disk drive, CD-ROM drive & primary hard disk drive. If both of the above are ok than try clearing the cmos/bios by resetting the cmos jumper (JP1) location on page 5. Descriptions of page five on page 6. CMOS settings on page 9. When your system restarts re-enter your cmos & reset up your bios settings. Lastly if none of the above has fixed the error message, than remove the cmos battery & check its voltage. It should maintain 3volts. If yours' is lower than 3volts replace the cmos battery. There is one other possible fix. It’s an option not given lightly. Flashing a cmos/bios is not recommended unless all other options have failed.

The rom you used to flash the bios may not have been the correct one
for your mobo, or it did not complete the flash entirely. Try using the
usb a drive to flash it again and/or revert back to an older version.
Hi, as long as both chips are slot 478 it should work fine, you wont need to change any bios or jumpers, just open up the computer, remove the heatsink, lift the lever and remove the CPU. Insert new processor.
you will need thermal grease at this point, you need to apply a little amount onto the cpu, and make sure the old thermal paste is removed from the heatsink and then refit the heatsink & fan.
other option is fit the new cpu and purchase a new heatsink & fan, they usually come with the thermal grease, a new heatsink will cost about £10 or themal grease by itself will cost about 2-3 pounds.
just make sure you have new thermal paste before you remove the heatsink as the processor will get damaged otherwise..
Try pressing F2 / Del key during startup. That should bring the bios setup. Now Restore that defaults & install OS on your HDD. If you are not using Floppy drive, disable the onboard floppy controller from BIOS.
