Small button to right of screen has to be toggled left, then pushing up or down alters shutter speed. Can be a bit fiddly, gentle perseverance is called for.

In the manual and shutter-priority modes (set the dial to "M" or "S"), turn the command dial to change the shutter speed. In the aperture-priority mode (set the dial to "A"), turning the command dial changes the aperture and the camera will set the shutter speed appropriately.

The aperture is the opening in the lens through which light passes to the image sensor. Changing the aperture setting allows you to control the depth of fieldof a photograph. When the aperture is opened to a widersetting, (indicated by a lower f-stop number) more light is passed to the imagesensor, creating more shallow depth of field. Closing the aperture (indicatedby a higher f-stop number) allows less light to pass to the image sensor,creating wider depth of field. NOTE:The aperture setting is one of three primary settings usedto control the overall exposure of a photograph. The other two primary settingsare ISO and shutter speed. Because the three settingswork together to produce the overall exposure for a photograph, changingthe aperture setting will require complimentary changes to either the ISO or shutter speed to produce a properly exposed photograph. These changes will bemade automatically by the camera in the Auto, Program, Aperture-priority andShutter-priority modes. There are two ways tocontrol the aperture setting on the camera:
Aperture-priority mode (A)- When shooting in Aperture priority mode (A), you set the aperture value and the camera automatically sets the optimum shutter speed for you.
Manual mode (M)- When shooting in Manual mode (M), you control both aperture and shutter speed, which gives you maximum creative control to achieve the exact results you want.
Since there is no shutter or aperture priority mode on the A550, the shutter speed is predetermined by the shooting mode. You can try changing the ISO speed when in a certain mode, but the camera may compensate by changing the aperture setting rather than the shutter speed. You'll have to experiment.
You can place the camera in Long Shutter Mode, however, when you want exposures times between 1 and 15 seconds. You set that by pressing the Function menu and Func. Set button when in [Camera icon]M mode, then using the < and > buttons to cycle through the long shutter settings.
If you're using a lens with an aperture ring, simply set the exposure mode to Manual or Aperture priority and change the aperture by turning the aperture ring on the lens. In Aperture priority the camera will set the shutter speed appropriately, in Manual you have to determine the appropriate shutter speed. If you want to use such a lens in Shutter priority or one of the Program modes, you must set the aperture to its smallest setting (largest f/number) and lock it.
If you're using a lens without an aperture ring then it's a bit harder. You can only use the camera in Shutter priority or one of the Program modes. You turn the command dial on the camera to change the exposure, and the aperture will change. If you want to use an exposure different than what the meter suggests, you can adjust it by using either exposure compensation or changing the ISO setting (or both).

Set the camera to Shutter Priority AE by turning the mode dial to S. Press the +/- button to open the setting screen, then press up/down to select the shutter speed.
You control the shutter speed the same way in Manual mode. You also select different shutter speed/aperture combinations the same way in Program mode.
You can indirectly control the shutter speed in Aperture Priority AE by changing the aperture and letting the camera set the appropriate shutter speed.
In Program AE, press the exposure compensation button and then up/down on the 4-way button to change the shutter speed/aperture combination.
In Aperture Priority AE you can control the shutter speed indirectly. Press the exposure compensation button and then up/down on the 4-way button to change the aperture, and the camera will adjust the shutter speed to suit.
In Shutter Priority AE press the exposure compensation button and then up/down on the 4-way button to change the shutter speed. The camera will adjust the aperture to suit.
In Manual press the exposure compensation button and then up/down on the 4-way button to change the shutter speed. You'll have to press left/right on the 4-way button to select the appropriate aperture.
In Programmed (P), Shutter-priority (S), and Manual (M) modes, turn the main command dial (the one in the back). In Aperture-priority (A) mode, turning the subcommand dial (the one in the front) controls the aperture and changes the shutter speed to suit.
This all assumes you haven't gone into the menus and switched the functions of the two command dials.
If you move from mode to mode, the camera will remember the settings from the last time you were in that mode and reset to them. This is handy if you are in shutter priority shooting sports at a high shutter speed, and then want to take a picture of something that's not moving fast, like the crowd. You just pop it into aperature priority with a remembered settings of a higher f stop.
I use this to shoot the scoreboard, which has a fairly slow refresh rate and usually comes up blank if I shoot it at a shutter speed higher than about 1/100.
The green rectangle is full automatic. You can use the P mode for the same function. In the P mode, you can change settings, in the green rectangle, you cannot.
s I understand it from what I have seen on the Web, the 3000Z can operate in several modes:
1. Fully automatic (camera select both
2. Manual (user sets both aperture and shutter speed).
3. Aperture Priority mode - user sets aperture and camera chooses correct shutter speed to get a good exposure
Apparently there is no Shutter Priority mode (user cannot set only the shutter er speed and allow the camera to set the aperature to get a good exposure). This option is available on the Epson 850Z camera and this seems like a silly ommision to make on a "high-end" camera like the 3000Z.
