Hi there it's SmartAlec from NelsonVacuums.com.au here. The smell is likely stored in your pre motor filter. This can usually be washed out and reinserted. I would also give your canister a really good clean generally while your in maintenance mode.

Roller not spinning

Possible belt broken. If you smell an odor like burning rubber it could be the belt that turns the roller if not the belt could be broken already.Possible string or something else wrapped around roller. If you have animals in home they shed and the hair or fur gets wrapped around roller and it will stop the roller.

My Dyson Animal vacuum smells horribly of dog. It's worse than my dog has ever smelled - even at his worst. How do I take apart the Animal to clean it properly? Can I use a weak water/Chlorox solution...

hi Donna.
Complete removal of pet hair from the home is a quandary many pet owners face. The Dyson Animal series vacuums use centrifugal force to remove animal hair from carpets, floors, curtains and upholstery. The high-powered vacuum is bagless, allowing you to extract pet hair from surfaces without worrying about running out of vacuum bags. As your Dyson Animal vacuum is exposed to pet hair and dander, a smell can develop. Similar to other small appliances, a vacuum needs periodic cleaning to keep it looking and smelling clean. When you use basic cleaning and deodorizing techniques, you can get the smell out of your Dyson Animal vacuum.

Step 1

Remove the bagless receptacle for pet hair according to the directions provided for your Dyson Animal vacuum. Hold the receptacle upside down inside a trash bag and tap the bottom to remove pet hair and dirt.

Step 2

Mix 1/2 tsp. of dishwashing detergent with 1/2 gallon of warm water in a bucket. Dip a clean cloth into the soap solution and wring it out.

Step 3

Wash the inside and outside of the receptacle with the cloth to remove dirt and dander that cause odor. Rinse the receptacle with a cloth dampened with water. Dry it thoroughly with another cloth.

Step 4

Remove the HEPA filter from your Dyson Animal vacuum. Pick visible clumps of pet hair off the filter and discard them. Flush the filter with cool water to wash out dirt and hair. Rinse the filter until the water runs clean. Gently squeeze the filter and allow it to air-dry for up to 12 hours to ensure it dries completely.

Step 5

Moisten a cloth with undiluted vinegar. Wipe off the exterior of the vacuum with the vinegar. Deodorize the receptacle and interior areas, where the bagless receptacle and filter go, by wiping them with the vinegar-moistened cloth. Dry the vacuum with a clean cloth.

Step 6

Place two drops of vanilla extract on a cotton ball. Drop the cotton ball into the receptacle before securing it to the vacuum to prevent odor from building up. Vanilla extract is an effective natural odor absorber.

hope this helps you out.

My Dirt Devil Vibe bagless vacuum started giving off a burning smell. The brush roller was jammed with hair. I immediately shut it off and cut the hair out of the rollers with scissors until it turned...

It's more likely there's a clog in the hose somewhere, possibly where it connects to the power nozzle. Detach hose and check the PN.
If there's no clog in the PN, detach hose completely from machine and try to drop a marble or coin through the hose. If it doesn't fall through, there's a clog that needs removed/cleared. Hold PN end of hose tightly to tank of vacuum and turn on. That may be enough to **** the clog through. If not, use a canister or shop vacuum to blow the clog out.

It was making a funny noise, then a burning smell, and smoke coming from under the cylinder which collects the dirt, then switched itself off. I have checked for blockages and can't see any

your motor is burned up. stop using the vacuum immediately due to possibility of fire. this is usually caused by the inner seal on the bottom of the cyclone lifts up or gets pinched and doesnt seal with the bottom lid.

Dyson absolute 17 animal smells like its burning when turned on also has terrible noise...nothing wrong with belt already checked it..so what's going on

I had the same problem with my DC15. With the brushes going it smelled like burning hair (bad). I had cleaned the brushes many times and it didn't seem to help. I even took it into a Dyson authorized repair shop and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. As a last resort I called Dyson 866-693-9766 1-866-My-Dyson. I was on hold for about 15 minutes before getting a live person. He had my problem diagnosed in literally 1 minute. I had hair wrapped around the spindle, inside the brush/roller mechanism. He walked me through taking apart the brush mechanism (super simple only using a quarter). There was a TON of hair crammed around the spindles and inside the brushes. All wrapped very tightly. I hung up with him to do the cleaning. It took some time and I had to use tweezers to get inside the rollers/brushes. But I got it all, put it back together (which was really easy) and tested it out. No burning hair smell at all. FIXED!

Burning smell

Have you checked the the hoses are free of debris?
Is the setting for floor on when you are vacuuming the carpet.

Turn id on an see if it will **** up some pennies.
Use the hose for that.

Check for string hair, etc cought in the brush.
Use the small pick knife that should have came w/ the dyson to cut away and thing caught in the brush.

Hope this helps.

The purple cylinder on my Dyson 14 Animal vacuum smells terrible

Make sure that the filter is completely dry before you reinsert it. If not, it will mildew, emitting a horrible smell. When you clean your cylinder, you must wait for at least three to four days to make sure that it is completely dry.

Dc 14 animal emits a terrible smell after about ten minutes of us

You can take a Febreze sheet and put it into the canister/dirt bin where the dirt spins around. It'll spin around whilst you vacuum your house and it'll spread the fragrance through the vacuum and hopefully get rid of the smell for you.

You can also blow out the cyclone with an air compressor or a leaf blower by opening the bin door on the bottom of the dirt bin and blowing up the cyclone in the middle - perhaps there is something lodged up there that is causing the foul odor.
