Ref:Winfast K7NCR18D DC- NFORCE2+ motherboard with Athlon 2800XP and DDR 400 memory. System has been working, but computer says processor is 1.25GHz (I thought it was faster eg 2.08GHz), so I tried using BIOS ''Advanced Chipset Features'', changing FSB freq from 133 MHz to 200MHz. Saved this and exited and now nothing works. Unfortunately I do not have a system boot up disk! What can I do?

Mother board manual for Acer T180 PC

    Hi,

WinFast K7NCR18 series is a compelling Desktop solution as a Socket A/AMD Athlon, Athlon XP, Athlon, and Duron-based ATX motherboard. WinFast K7NCR18 series, integrating NVIDIA chipset, supports the AMD Athlon processor whose performance is bound to exceed expectation of both consumer and corporate users alike. The WinFast K7NCR18 series also supports a 200/266/333 MHz system bus, PC1600/PC2100/PC2700/PC3200 DDR memories, and the latest graphics devices through the AGP 3.0 8X interface; and allows a direct connection to the graphics and memory for faster access to peripherals. An DVI/TV interface is multiplexed with the AGP bus and can be used to drive DVI compatible flat panel displays, projectors, and digital CRTs and TV monitors.

The Dolby Digital Interactive Content encoder is also integrated that can also process and output a Dolby Digital audio stream directly to a home theater system via a S/P DIF interface. WinFast K7NCR18 series offers innovative design, support for high-volume DDR memory, and configuration options that optimize performance and provide a robust, mainstream platform...

My motherboard has fried: Albatron KM18G Pro 2003. It no longer seems to be available. For the computer to be exactly as it was before disaster struck, do I need exactly the same motherboard?

Well you do not need exactly the same motherboard. You need a motherboard that has the exact CPU socket, DDR slots and AGP or PCI slot.
Here are the specifications for the motherboard: Processor
    - AMD Athlon/Athlon XP/AthlonXP Barton/Duron Processor
    - FSB 200/266/333MHz
    Chipset
    - North Bridge: NVIDIA nForce2 IGP
    - South Bridge: NVIDIA nForce2 MCP
    - I / O Chip : Winbond W83627HF
    Memory
    - 3 DDR Sockets:
    -
DDR200 to 400 non-ECC DDR SDRAM up to 3GB (Single Channel) or up to 2GB (Dual Channel)
    Expansion Slots
    - 1 x AGP 8X/4X slot (1.5V Only)
    - 3 x PCI slots (PCI 2.2 compliant)
IDE Connectors 2 ATA133 channels (up to 4 ATA 133 IDE Devices)
    Onboard I/O Connectors
    - 1x Floppy Connector
    - 2x USB 2.0/1.1 header (4 ports USB cable optional)
    - 1x CD_IN header
    - 1x COM Port header
    - 1x S/PDIF in/out header (S/PDIF in/out cable optional)
    - 1x CPU fan header with fan rotation detection function
    - 1x System fan headers with fan rotation detection function
    - 2x 5 pin system panel header (Intel spec)
    - 1x 3 pin Power LED header
    - 1x 4 pin Speaker header
    - 1x Front audio header (Intel spec)
    - 1x Case Open detection header
    - 1x Wake on LAN
    - 1x 4 pin TV-Out header

So you have to buy a motherboard that has Socket A, that support DDR I memories and has an AGP slot (for the video card).

If you need further assistance, just leave a comment. Thank you for using FixYa.

    Chip up grade options!

    That
is a socket 754 motherboard. It will support AMD Athlon processors up to Athlon64 3400+. It is a bit long in the tooth by today's standards, and only uses DDR memory, not DDR2. You may get more of a bang for your buck by buying a "barebones" system, which can consist of a motherboard with processor and memory, depending on how much you want in the barebones package.

Typically you use the case, power supply you already have with the new motherboard and processor and ram (memory).

At any rate, if you only want to upgrade your processor, keep in mind that your board only supports up to the Athlon64 3400+. It will support up to DDR 400 ram. You would probably benefit more by buying 2 sticks of 400 DDR ram at 2 gigs each, if you don't have much ram now. If your processor is close to the 3400+, then another processor in that board isn't going to change things much.

Good luck, and write back if you'd like more help.

    Sirwriter

    Socket754 Supports AMD Athlon64 upto 3400+;
