Camera only works without the sd when the card is inserted the display will come on and shuts off right away

Hi!

Try to reformat the the SD card. You can do this by inserting it on a card reader and then plug it on your PC. When the computer sees the card, go to My Computer, right click the SD card and then click Format.

Display reads "LOC"
The SD card has a little switch on the left side (Lock/Unlock) that provides write protection for the card. The switch is in the Locked position and the camera can't write to the card. Remove the card and move the switch to the unlocked position (towards the contacts on the end you insert into the camera). Then replace the card carefully so that you do not change the position of that switch.

If that doesn't work, try another SD card.

Be sure you have a standard SD card to put into this camera, not a SDHC type.
You will be limited to a maximum of 2GB with SD, but it should work perfectly.
If not, check the SD card in a notebook or PC's cardreader and/or replace the
SD card with another one. If this does not work the SD card interface in the
camera may be defective.

I inserted a new 4gb sandisk memory card and get a "card error" message with a "00001" in top right corner of display. any advise? thanks.
The 5022 is specified to work with SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it will fit into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work in the 5022. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

Copy from camera to SD?
Create a folder on your computer desktop. Drag and drop the video file from the card to the folder. Open the folder, right-click the card, click on open with, and choose a player to open the video. If you don't have one on your computer, Quicktime is a free download and works very well.
