I would try a johnson/ evinrude/ bombardier dealer for the diagram. OMC was bought out by them so they should be able to help. However in the marine industry it can be hard any literature on older products b/c they only produce a limited amount of their products.

3.0 omc sterndrive. I am getting no spark beyond my points. I installed a new cap, rotor, and plugs. any ideas?

Is the rotor turning? Check your coil and condenser.
The OMC drive system uses Micro switches in the linkage. They switch when the throttle positions are correct. The Micros operate the ignition Module.

Some of the outdrive systems have a starter cutout and some have an ignition cutout for the UP positon of the outdrive. The angle of the outdrive is too severe for the U-joints to move so they fix your boat not to start when the outdrive is UP.

Move your outdrive down and see if the igniton comes back.

Omc 3.0 motor fires but will not start

Yes, the ignition switch or ignition wires on the Run side of the switch may be bad. Most people don't know that the Start side of the switch can power the spark plugs. But when you stop cranking and let the key go to Run you can lose the spark to the plugs

There is also a safety feature in the OMC system. The micro switches on the linkage have to be adjusted or timed. This is so the throttle is not set too high to engage the outdrive. So it does a lockout of the module or a lockout of the starter.

A second feature prevents starting if the outdrive is up too high. This prevents breaking Ujoints and dangerous planing conditions from an improperly trimmed outdrive. Lower the outdrive.

You will see the microswitches, see if the linkage can be moved to line up the contacts. They are simply contact switches and you may have to temporarily disconnect some linkage to test start.

All the gear lube on my bravo III leaked out. The oil came out where the prop and the lower unit meet.

we had replaced the engine in our 87 4.3 star craft and when we put the omc cobra stern drive back in we now dont have foward gear, we have nuetral and reverse. could it be the linkage or could it be the shifter cable or any other idea's that could be the problem.

Looking for water inlet holes on my omc outdrive

You should have slots on either side of the lowest part of the outdrive, above the skag or fin. There can be a difference if you have what is called a closed cooling system. The closed system has a radiator in front of the engine like an auto. The water from the lake goes through heat exchangers and does not make direct contact with the water in the radiator. The older open system uses lake water directly and it goes through the slots on the lower unit.
