This four-year-old 30" flat screen loses the picture intermittently -- sound is fine, but screen goes to black. If you turn the TV off and on again, the picture may reappear, but the picture will disappear again in 10-15 minutes. Can I fix it? Or should I chunk it?

Do you know if i can use an inverter from any LCD tv, or does it have to be specific to that model? I was thinking about taking an inverter from another broken TV.
I had the same problem and replaced the backlight inverter board and now it works fine. The part can be found at lcdparts.com or on ebay. It's pretty easy to fix yourself. It has about a dozen small plugs to connect to the board. If you're comfortable opening up your computer and putting a card in, you can repair it. The sources I found charged $149-$179 plus shipping for the new card.

Same problem, no picture, but have sound. I believe its the LED backlighting controll board. I found one online for 170. Anyone have any input as to fixing it yourself?
