Hi Paul,

You can do basic troubleshooting from your end.

I need you to take out the battery, memory card. On the battery compartment, try to blow inside to remove any residues from the old batteries used.

Take the battery and the memory card back into place and then test if it will power on.

If it does not, let us know.

Pentax Optio A10 camera turns on, the lens extends, the whistle sounds, and the screen displays battery level, & indicators. The problem is the screen itself is dark as if there is a lens cover on.

Normal people can't fix electronic cameras, you need to be an electronics engineer and an optical engineer. Take to a Camera Service Centre for evaluation and repair.

Canon 60D playback images turning up black

Did you switch to Tv (shutter mode) and took pictures for several seconds? like in the dark? Because saving the picture can take as long as the shutter time was.
Before panic. (Actually you never should panic) check your camera in automatic mode. And make sure you did not select any power save action, that puts your display on dark while shooting.
But always be sure your battery is charged and check its capacity. In the menu yo can check under the wrench symbol, when you select Battery info. Page 268 of the manual.
Working with a bad battery can damage the camera in the end.

THE IMAGES CAPTURED AT NIGHT ARE SO DARK THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO VIEW THEM. WE CAN SEE SHADOWS IF DEER BUT CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET AN ADEQUATE PICTURE AT NIGHT.

Turn camera off take out battery's and sd card. Once everything is out put it to the on postion for about 2-3 min. Then put battery's back in with the camera being on still leave sd card out. Once it says no card turn camera off then put sd card back test in dark. If still not working call Moultire 8006533334 option 1 and 1 for a live person.

I have canon sd 750. its lcd gets black. Shows pictures etc but view finder remains dark. display is zz. what to do?

Look for DISP or DISPLAY button in the lower-right corner of the back of your camera. Press this once while the camera is turned on. The DISPLAY button manually turns the screen on and off. This is to save battery power for extended use. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place.

When i put on the camera the monitor is so dark i can not see what i am taking out

Please clarify a few things so someone can help you.

1. Are you saying it's too dark when playing back previously taken photos, when recording new photo's, or just all the time.

2. Can you see the camera menu's ok but not the live view of the subject.. or is everything just too dark?

3. Does the Status Indicator LED on the back light up showing that the camera has adequate battery power?

Here are some suggestions (You can quit when you find one that works).

1. Check that the monitor brightness setting is set to medium at least in the menu's. Go to SETUP MENU and then MONITOR to check this. It has 7 brightness levels.

2. Press the display button on the back a few times while the camera is on. This toggles the display setting between various settings such as Off/ On / Info. The display may simply be turned off since that is an option.

3.. Try a 2nd set of new batteries.

4.. If you can read the menu's then select the option to reset the camera to factory defaults. Do NOT select to format or erase your memory card, that is not required and it's not the same thing as a reset. This just sets the main functions back to their original settings.

5. If it works fine for playback but not for recording then check that the main record settings are correct for the type of scene. For example don't use Beach, Snow or Candle mode for regular daylight shots.

6. If the built-in screen has an issue the video output jack should still work since that is a different circuit, So connect the camera to a TV and see if it works then. That also lets you see the menu's to check the settings if the built-in screen has an issue.

7. Check that "AUTO LCD OFF" is not set.

8. If none of these suggestions resolve it then ask a local photographer to take a look at it since there may be more solutions that become evident when you see it in person.

Lastly ...
It could have a bad CCD sensor or corrupt firmware but I can't say for sure since there was so little information provided.

The factory can fix any problem or replace the camera and internal programming issues can often be fixed with a firmware upgrade. But don't do that unless you are familiar with it.

I have a Panasonic DMC-LZ7 camera. I have installed new batteries, however when ever I turn the camera on it beeps and displays the message "Please replace the batteries". Is it worth while sending if for...

My DMC-LZ7 started having the same "please replace batteries" error a few weeks ago (bought in 2007). It only seems to happen with my NiMH rechargables, though they test as full-strength with a cheap battery tester. Alkalines don't cause the error and I haven't tried Oxyride (ZR6) batteries yet.
The camera has two battery-type settings (Alkaline/NiMH

Canon A75 No startup sound & display on LCD, rest of things works fine

Think it might be your batteries. 700mah batteries are pretty weak by today's standards (most are at least 2,500 mah these days). I'm guessing your batteries are several years old? If so, they're really only meant to have a usable shelf life of a few years, whether they are used or not. Recommend trying a new set of rechargeable batteries.
