Unfortunately
a "lens error" message is not something that you will be able to fix. This error indicates a system failure and requires the
camera to be sent in for servicing and repair.
You may find it more cost effective to purchase a new camera as opposed to the repair price on your current camera.
you have stripped the lens gearing you will find that you need to have the lens gogs replaced a very expensive repair sir. it may be time to buy a new one
it sounds like the problem you're experiencing is related to the stabilizer being able to reset itself. Oftentimes with the stabilizer lens especially if the lens is dropped or impacted the stabilizer will lose one of its control points. When this happens the camera will try to initialize the stabilizer and find it'll come in slightly crooked which will cause the camera to error out. Usually when this happens will have to replace the stabilizer unit for lands like yours which is actually a Sigma lens the cost for the part usually runs around $89. Since the lens works fine in the manual mode and only fails when you turn the stabilizer on I would guess that the stabilizer is your culprit. Replacement of this product will require the lands be completely disassembled and then recalibrating cleanness is put back together. The repair of this type usually runs around $109. You might try contacting the manufacturer directly to see if you are covered under an extended warranty. These lenses often were covered for three years. You should be able to find your local contact number on your lens information sheet. Good luck if we can help contact me directly.
I had the same problem. I dropped my camera on the floor today while its on. I tried hitting it but it didn't work. So what I did is, I pull the lens or shuttle forward then I close it and turn it back on. It work perfectly fin now. I hope that helps.
The lens motor mechanism is very fragile and will stoppworkin even if you look at it too hard let alone drop it. The cost of repair will be high - best bet is to write it off[are you insured against accidental damage?]Check out the manufacturer off course.
