HP w22 Monitor display disappears after about 2

Make/ Model: HP w22
Regulatory Model: HSTND-2241-T
Product Number: RG556AA
SN: CNT704Z17Q
Date of Manufacture: January 2007
Assembly Number: 434000-001
Rev: CTM003

Problem: when I turn the monitor on I can see a display for about 2 seconds. The display disappears. If I turn the monitor off, then on, I can see the display for about two seconds, then it disappears again. The cycle continues. The symptom is the same with no signal input, and with input selected for VGA or for DVI.
If I shine a flashlight into the screen I can see a very faint display. I believe this indicates a backlight issue. I could be wrong.

Can anyone help me find a service/repair manual for this monitor?
Can anyone tell me what parts to look at for the backlight power?
Can anyone tell me what the voltage that drives the backlight might be?

Thank you all in advance, for your assistance.

Bill, if monitor not covered by warranty, the check out YOUTUBE for long 8-12 minute video clips of LCD monitor disassembly or LCD monitor repair to find out what the major cause of your monitors SYMPTOM that you described above. Here is a small hint for you. If you didn't see the displayed data on the BLACK lcd panel with the flashlight "trick" then you would know that the entire "switch-mode-power-supply" was in complete SHUTDOWN mode or even blown the "line-in fuse" for the monitor. Also try a visit to www. ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm and view some of their vids on repair of lcd SMPS/INVERTER supplys and cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp replacement. They also do the repairs and return shipping. Please rate this on fixya if this response was helpful. Bye for now. 12fixlouie

My HP w22 Monitor started to make a crackling sound and than all the sudden turned off, or something. It wont come back on. The computer works just not the monitor. Any ideas on how to fix the problem?

Try checking your Cable connections to the Monitor to the Computer and from the Monitor to the wall outlet. The crackling sound maybe normal. Most Monitors make that sound.

My Neovo E-W22 monitor quit working. I have had it just under 2 years. It is as if it is getting no power. Any ideas?

Open it up and look at the capacitors. The round "tin can" looking components. If the tops appear bulged, then replacing them may help. Check out the YouTube video... and web site...

Make sure the power connector is secure with your monitor and the adapter power light is on as green. If not working at all then just contact with AG Neovo as [email protected] for 3 yrs warranty repair. But you probably have to cover the one way shipping only.

Make/ Model: HP w22 Service Manual or repair

hogwillie, Yes, I gave up on trying to get useful info from ANY lcd display manufacturer! Tell me some stuff will ya! Have you disassembled the unit yet? Did you find any SWOLLEN electrolytic filter capacitors? Have you checked ALL the solder joints for the components (through hole and surface mount parts) for "frosty" or "thermal fracturing"? I use an old WWII navy inspection microscope for that task. All the solder joints should be nice and brite, just shy of being "mirror finish" or polished chrome on a hog showbike! Let me know what you find. Also check for video clips at youtube if you are repairing this unit yourself. FYI visit www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm run by "buddymc" also from fixya and try the following www.badcaps.net and www.lcdparts.net I would like to know what u find wrong with ur boards. If you can't video tape your tear-down, at least do some digital stills documentation of your work. Use multi color sharpy markers to identify and match PLUGS to CONNECTORS. Makes reassembly a lot easier!! Bye for now. 12fixlouie aka louie12fix

My hp w22 monitor turns on 4 about 2 seconds then

w22 monitor connected to what ,my guess the vga cable
is the PC on,? what PC is it, with VGA port
is the PC making sounds, it must, the fans must work
2 to3 in desktoop
1 in the laptop (VGA on rear, most)
test the monitor on a good PC yet,be super easy, why not do that.

the manual is here, read that?
as you can see its 12 years old,, and may have ccfl tubes, bad.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00771554

ccfl tubes when 5 to 10 years old fail
turn yellow
black
dim
or stobe
or are good one day not next or hour by hour or minute
a fact.

save all this pain, pick it up go to good PC and test it.
why wait, and even risk PC damage ,guessing as most do untrained.

Acer Aspire 3620 will not recognize external monitor.

When in windows, the 2nd monitor output needs to be turned on for it to show picture.

Right click on your wallpaper and select properties, and then settings.

b7ba9f2.jpg
You should see a page similiar to this, the number 2 would be the external display, you need to right click on it and select attach. then you can adjust its settings below and click apply.

If you don't see the 2nd display there, then it needs to be enabled in another location.

Screen image appears fuzzy, jumpy and broken up into lines.

gardenman13, I would certainly complain to HP about their w22 monitor!! Find out if the units warranty is still valid and can be swapped-out for a REFURBISHED unit. Your w22 shouldn't be hazy, distorted, or flicker for any reason. My best guess is that it (w22) has problems inside with it's "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" and electronic ballast circuit called an INVERTER circuit, which could also cause the main "switch-mode-power-supply" to go a little NUTS upon STARTUP!! FYI you are dealing with a technology similar to the curlie-Q CFL screw-in light bulbs. Their ballast's are called CONVERTERs (ac to ac) and are cheaper. Your lanps are thinner and straight, hung on rear of your LCD panel. I hope this was informative. Please rate this on fixya. 12fixlouie
