SOURCE: my camera sony DSC-55 shows a pink background and

You have a problem it seems with the circuitry of the camera. This camera is too old for warranty, so I would suggest to try to set the menus to original or factory settings. Then test it.
If that does not fix the problem, do some testing further. Get a card from another camera and play it back on this one. If the picture is good, then the problem is in the ccd to the circuit system. If you can see the menus with the correct colors, then suspect ccd sensor. If the bad colors are always there, then you can suspect a few things, one, the LCD could have bad connections or is bad otherwise. If you see any good colors from the menus or playback, then that part of the camera is probably good. And there could be bad or failing parts in the circuits if colors are always bad no matter how you test it.

Check the cable going into the back of your monitor and the cable from your monitor into your computer, one of them is most likely loose.

I think your camera chip is dying soon. Try taking a photo on a blank sheet of paper, black and white, see if there are lines. If there is, it shows that the camera chip is defective...

Want a B&W copy from colored sheet of paper w/o dark background.

It's never going to be perfect (unless the background is quite light in colour), because the copier basically "sees" the coloured background as "gray", and the darker the background the more "gray" it looks. Try setting the original type to "photo" mode, and then adjusting the exposure a little lighter/darker....that's all you can basically do.

Reddish cast in photos, white objects look pink.

Hello dcmassey, the cause of the problem can be CCD imager. So, the best solution is to claim for Sony recall. If there is some other problem ask for the price estimate. Please contact the nearest Authorized Sony Service. Best regards, Arpi
