This is one possible solution I was given. If you the eco-route set the city MPG to 10 or 15 and the Highway MPG to 40 or higher. Try it set on fastest time or Less fuel and see how it routes you. I have mine set on Less Fuel now and it appears to take more interstate highways and better off interstate highways. I will say be careful and check it on some know route you take once you have it set up.

This isn't a Solution rather a complaint.
This seems to be a common problem with the Nuvi 350. Even though it's set for Fastest route and avoid Unpaved Roads & U turns it still often takes routes over local roads when there is a 90 degree intersection between 2 Interstates that you'd like to take.

Is there some option to force it to take Interstate Only where possible?
If I get a newer Garmin will it be any better at this?... or is this a flaw in the Garmin software??

If you have set it to fastest, as opposed to shortest, it should take you on interstates for the most part.

Why the garmin nuvi 2595 is avoiding freeways

No. it depends on your settings. You can choose fastest route, shortest route or to avoid like toll, U-turn, ferry, or..... check your settings and reset it as suitable for your driving situation.

Bad directions

It sounds as though your avoidances is set for "Highways." From the main menu, press, "Tools" then "Settings" and then "Navigation." Press "Avoidances" and see if there is a check mark next to "Highways." If there is, press it. The check mark should disappear. Let me know if this helps.

Directions never include interstates or major highways

Make sure you have the preference set to the fastest route. If that doesn't do it, make sure you don't have interstate avoidence marked.

I would just like to know how I can tell my Garmin Nuvi 350 to avoid taking me through the toll roads. Is there a way to chose to not be given a direction that takes you through a toll road?

Yes, very easy to do. Click on the wrench/tools symbol. Then click on the Navigation icon and then select "Avoidances". Press and put a check mark next to the text that is labeled "Toll Roads".

I used my garmin nuvi 760 for the first time this evening and received terrible navigation as well as a lot a static. I was listening to the instructions over 88.1 FM on the car radio. Any suggestions for...

Try testing out a few other stations to see if that makes a difference. for the navigation part, you want to be sure you have the 2009 map update for one. Also under "avoidances" there could be a few options checked in there that would mess with your navigation ex: avoid highways, u-turns, interstates, etc

How to unlock Garmin nuvi 350

Take it to the safe location and it will unlock by itself. Otherwise, you'll have to send it to Garmin with proof of purchase. This is a security feature on the Garmin products to avoid use if they're stolen. If you bought it from a retailer, take it back there and ask for replacement.

We were sent over the worse mountain roads going from Lexington SC to Franklin NC. It most certainly was a dangerous way to go on windy mountain roads. The NUVI indicated it was the fastest way and the...

Welcome to FixYa:

I am not sure which model of the Nuvi you are using but I have the Nuvi 660 and can feel your pain. What use is going over a mountain or down roads made of gravel and miles from civilization only because it is technically a "shorter route"

So here are the basic directions to change that setting and get the Nuvi to keep you on the highways and interstates. If it varies too much, either respond with your model number or go to Garmin.com and get the manual for your model:

Go to SETTINGS
then NAVIGATION
click on ROUTE PREFERENCES

You should find what you need here, but to tell the Nuvi which type of roads to avoid and which ones to stick to:

go back to the SETTINGS menu
touch NAVIGATION again
and click on AVOIDANCES

Hope this helps and be sure to keep us updated!

Might be a good idea to look at your route preference settings. If you have accidentally told it that you're a nervous driver who wants to avoid Interstates at any cost, it will do all it can to honour that request.

Garmins Nuvi 350 - voice interactive lost

I have the same problem with my Nuvi 350. It's only about 2 months old and the sound went. I turned it on the other day to use it and the sound did not sound right, it sounded like the speaker was blown. I turned it off and turned it back on and that was it, the sound was gone. I did everything possible and can't get the sound to come back. I called Garmin and now I have to send it in for repair. I looked around the web and noticed that Garmins have big issues with the sound going on the units. I hope they fix that issue.
