Phillips 170b monitor not working

Hi, My monitor went black last. If I turn it off and on again it lights up so you can see whats on the screen but then goes black. I've tried it through the USB connection and the same thing happens. I've tried just turning it on without it connected to the computer at all and the same thing happens. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Exactly the same problem here. Phillips 170B Monitor about two years old. Lights up for no more than 2 seconds then goes blank. Switch on/off and exactly the same thing. I suspect than the screen goes really dim rather than switching off because sometimes I can see the screen image very faintly.

my phillips 170s also shuts down in 2 secs. The capacitor between the two stepup transformers had the lid raising. try to change the cap but with no result :( can hear a high pitch sound from the psu when i turn it on, but as soon the light dissaperars (on the screen) the sound stops with a small click. have measured the 5 and 12v going to the video board and these are ok

Most monitors come with a 3 year warranty....if you are within this warranty SEND IT BACK. This problem is usually down to a faulty transceiver. Easy to replace but be sure to disconnect electricity as you can get a fatal shock

hope this helps

This is most likely a power inverter problem & they are not cheap to exchange/repair. Buying a new monitor is probobly your best bet.

Blank Screen

Common problem in monitors are bad caps in the power supply, that is the first place to check, look for bad caps with bulging top/bottom, see example of failed VIEWSONIC monitors due to bad caps here (worst case will be bad lamps): http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see so we can help you further.

No sound from headset plugged into monitor

From the manual I found, this model does NOT support ANY audio connections.
http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/1/170b1a/170b1a_dfu_aen.pdf
170B Product Features
- 17" color LCD monitor with excellent display performance.
- Dual input-accepts both DVI Digital and VGA Analog input.
- Advanced AUTO adjustment automatically optimizes picture quality.
- Wide viewing angle technology.
- 7.1 (181mm) small footpring with full detachable cables.
- USB Bay for upgrade to USB Hub.
- Optional protective cover to prevent LCD panel damage.
- Standard VESA mounting holes and optional tilt/swivel Wall Mount Kit.

But if yours does have these ports, I would suggest they are not for a headset, but for connection to the _PC_. I would suggest your model monitor has built in speakers, and the green port is the INPUT from the PC Speaker output. The pink goes back to the PC from the MIC which is built into the screen.
