I have a woods chest style deep freeze and the lid is very cold on the outside, but the sides are room temperature and the freezer works fine. Why is the lid cold and how can I fix it

Yes, the freezer temperature means the lid gets very cold. Every time you open it some moisture condenses in the lid and the outside ambient also affects it. The insulation may be beginning to break down and the ice is forming inside. It is not a major problem however and many freezers go on for years with freezing lids!

I have deep freezer chest that does not freeze but when you plug it in you can hear it click on but will not get cold at all has been unplugged for a few years but stored in a dry building

If it doesn't get cold at all, then your compressor is not running. Which could be the start relay or start capacitor or even the compressor. The relay and capacitor are not that expensive and pretty easy to replace, but if it is the compressor then you might not want to put that much money into an older unit.

I unplugged my chest freezer to clean it out, when I plugged it back in it won't get cold. It's in excellent condition. Never has it gave me a problem. It's approx. 5 years old. Ed V

Try turning the thermostat down to O and then back to max a few times this may free a stuck bimetallic strip. If this doesn't work and assuming you haven't damaged any components in some way then all that may be required is a new thermostat.

Brand new freezer. power light is on. run light is on. I can clearly hear the compresor running. does not cool at all. ??? help

Chest freezers produce cold very slowly, so it could be an hour or more before you start to feel the cold. If still no cold, ( and I mean absolutley no cold) then you most likely have adamaged refrigerant line and the (freon) refrigerant has been lost. Take it back, or call for warranty repair.

Used Kenmore freezer won't get cold enough

If it is running but not cooling enough the problem is in the sealed system.

If you started it up just after hauling it home it may have be moved around enough to get oil in the systems smaller tubing causing problems. Unplug the unit for 24 hours and let it sit. Try it again for 24 hours and see if it cools.

If not this means either there is a refrigerant (freon) leak in the system or a restriction causing the refrigerant to not flow properly.

Either one are an expensive repair. and will require a professional to look at.

After being unplugged for one year, my Frigidaire 5 cu. ft. / 142 liter Chest Freezer FFC05M0A turns on, but does not get cold. What is the problem?

It's probable that you've lost refrigerant in the cooling system. Unfortunately, leaks in those systems can be hard to find so check your warranty to see if the labor is still covered.

New chest freezer not getting cold

I am having the same problem. How long did it take?
I bought mine second hand and think it may be broken. I plugged it in 8 hours ago. I can hear it running but it's not cold yet.
