The pilot lights and stays lit. When I try to ignite the burner, the pilot goes out as soon as I turn the knob.

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you
  • Disconnect the gas line from the heater by unscrewing the coupler attached to the gas inlet valve near the bottom of the burner or base of the unit.
  • 2 Remove the top cover from the heater, following the manufacturer's instructions. Typically the cover is held on by a screw and nut at the top or multiple screws around the perimeter. You may need a screwdriver to remove the screws.
  • 3 Look at the burner assembly, which is where the flames typically emerge. Open a bottle of rubbing alcohol and saturate the end of a cotton swab with it. Rub the cotton swab over the holes around the perimeter of the burner assembly to clean away grease, dirt and debris that may be clogging it.
  • 4 Look at the back of the burner assembly to find the venturi tubes, which are small silver tubes with holes in the end. Insert a pipe cleaner gently into the end of each tube and push it in until you feel resistance. Twist the pipe cleaner in a circle and pull it straight out to remove any spider webs that are blocking the inside.
  • 5 Reassemble the cover on the patio heater by reversing the steps taken to remove it. Reconnect the gas coupler to the inlet valve and turn on the heater to test the pilot ligh

Full tank, igniter clicks, i hear the flam come on but it wont light. What to do?

I am not sure which flame you hear light. The pilot light flame or the burner flame? In any event, the burner and the pilot assembly need to be cleaned. Insects love to build nest in these types of heaters, when they're not in use. When that happens, the pilot and/or the burner get's clogged.

A shop vac with a hose and brush attachment work well in cleaning the heater parts. Canned compressed air with a straw nozzle (like you clean your computer with) does well in blowing out the pilot tip and around the entire pilot assembly.

Be sure to turn the gas tank valve OFF and disconnect the hose and remove the tank, before attempting to clean the unit. When you replace the tank and reconnect the hose, be sure to open the gas tank valve VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion slow).

Hope this helps you solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

My pilot light won't stay lit no matter how long I hold the starter down

If the pilot is staying lit while you hold it but not after you let go, this is a bad thermocouple. Replace thermocouple.

I am trying to light a heater that is a couple of years old. The pilot will light but the main burner will not. I have changed tanks but no luck. Can you help.

Hello,
So the pilot flame stays lit after you release the pilot button, but goes out when you turn the knob to on. First make sure the pilot flame is a strong blue flame that is actually heating the thermocouple. If it's a lazy yellow flame, then it is dirty and will need to be blown out with a can of air with attached straw (to remove dust, spiderwebs, etc). You also might check the burner and orifice to make sure they are not blocked by a bug nests, etc and clean out as needed.

Make sure the thermocouple tip is not burn't off from the pilot flame. It should be a smooth rounded tip. If it's not, then replace it.

Lastly, make sure you're not turning the propane tank valve on too fast. To check this; disconnect the tank, reconnect it and then turn the valve on very slowly. Hopefully one of these solutions will fix your problem. Have a great weekend! Douglas

Nexgrill patio heater won't stay lit

I called Nexgrill technical support at 1-800-913-8999. They are sending me a new thermo couple to keep the valve open when ignited - so the patio heater will stay on. I needed to give them the serial number (inside the propane tank door) and fax them a copy of the receipt.

Hope this helps.

Endless Summer Patio Heaters won't stay lit

Hi ColdinSF,

You need to remove the covers from the unit and blow out the gas lines with compressed air. If you can remove the gas lines blow out the lines and what they connect to like the pilot light and main feed line to the burner. Usually they gunk up with use and just need to be blown out with compressed air to clear the lines again. Maybe you have some dirt or foreign object from your gas tank which has clogged the line. Also check the igniter electric lines as well and make sure everything is connected properly. Especially make sure you tighten the gas lines you remove. Hope this helps.

Regards
Bryan
