Possibly the lock button got moved in handling - look under the front of the scanner for a small button that moves sideways - it will have a lock and unlock position. It may have moved to the lock position - that prevents the head from moving.

I cannot use scanner Lide 25.. because show error : "release the lock switch, detach the I/F cable and reconnect" How solution?

Sounds like the scan head is locked. This is usually done so you can transport the scanner without bouncing the scan head out of alignment. Look under the scanner and you will see it. Make sure it's in the UNLOCKED position. You may need to power the unit off/on to reset it or restart your computer to get a fresh attempt at the scanner.

Hi I have just purchased a Samsung CLX- 3185 Colour printer, scanner and copier and the screen states ' Scanner Locked'

The scanner may have a locking lever that locks the scanner head so you can transport it without damaging the scanner head.
Locate the locking lever and unlock the scanner head.

Scan head is stuck in path and will not reset

I had the same problem. I disconnected the scanner from the PC. restarted my computer. Shook my scanner a little bit while PC was rebooting (or maybe a little slap) and when PC was rebooted), i plugged my scanner back and it recalibrated automatically.

Epson perfection 2580 scanner will not start. Programs installed w/cd. Epson updates added. Just says" scanner can not start"

The first thing to try: a new USB cable and a different port. (If you are using a hub, try directly connecting to the computer). What does the device manager say about the scanner? (In Windows, access from the Control Panel > Hardware. Exact directions depend on the OS version.)

Check the transport lock on the bottom of the scanner - do not put the scanner on its side when you check the lock.

Make sure the scanner was on and had already warmed up (stopped blinking) before you tried to start the scanner software (either by the buttons or from the scanner). You may want to reboot the computer (in case the computer thinks one program has locked access to the scanner).

I hope this helps.

(scanners require two-way communication with the computer and a bad cable will stop the scan even when the computer sees the scanner and the software installed without a problem.)

Scanner has racheting noise and red light stays

This noise is caused by the transport lock. Power the scanner off. Lock and unlock the transport lock a few times and then leave it in the unlocked position again and power on.

Scanner carriage jammed #3 and #6 does nothing.

Check if you haven't moved the scanner lock lever accidentally - find the lock lever (used to immobilize the carriage in transport) and move it to locked position, then to unlocked, and power up your unit. Chances are that the carriage was not dislocated when trying to move while locked, and will start to operate.
If it's not that, it may be a number of things, like broken belt, encoder strip (if any), carriage motor fault - things you won't be able to repair yourself.

Scanner locked?

On some models there is a transport latch to lock the scanner. Look under the scanner (where the copy comes out) and you will see a green slide. Look down thgrough the scanner glass and you will see a lock/unlock symbol.

When I turn the printer on, a rhythmic banging sound starts

Is the scanner transport lock engaged?

This is either a screw, pin, Clip, Slideswitch or button that keeps the delicate scanner head from moving during shipment.

Look for it in the back and on bottom. If that isn't it, then the driver circuit for the stepping/space positioner motor is bad and you need a techie like me to fix... or just get a new AIO for $39.95 from Wal Mart.

Installation

An error occurred when you set the transportation lock to the lock.gif locked position. To clear the error message on the LCD panel, set the transportation lock to the unlock.gif unlocked position, and then turn on the product again or press the fontx1.gif B&W Start or fontx1.gif Color Start button to restart the scanning job.

You can find the transportation lock on the left hand side of scanner when you lift/tilt ADF up. Hope this helps...
