Question about HP Pavilion dv7-1245dx Notebook
If you spill on your keyboard it really depends on how much you spilled on how big of a problem you will have. If it is a big spill the first thing you need to do is turn it off fast. Even if you have to do it by removing the battery and losing your work. this is CRITICAL!!!!! Electrolysis starts eating up electronic components very fast. Next remove your cmos battery for the very same reason. Then You will need to take the laptop apart and find just how far that coffee or pop actually spilled. For a major spill like this you should take it to a computer expert after your batteries are unpluged. There is a good chance you might save it. If it was just water and you got the batteries unhooked there is a very good chance that it will be fine once it is dried out. Dissassembly is the only sure way to make sure it is dry. Even then id let the parts sit in a very warm place for a few days.

Best thing to do is to take the keyboard out of the laptop. There is usually a top cover above the keyboard that needs to come off. Then there is some screws holding in the keyboard, unscrew those and then unhook the ribbon part of the keyboard off of the motherboard.
Then at that point take a paper towel or washcloth with glass cleaner and clean all around where the spillage is.
Also clean off the keyboard is well and let it sit for a day so it can dry out.
Then put the keyboard back and see if the keyboard is working properly, if not then you'll need to replace it.

Go here: http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/welcome.html#Support
You will need to enter the exact model number and you will be able to find a PDF file that will show you how to get the keyboard out.
It is actually very easy to do, but you will need the step by step manual if this is your first time working on a lappie.
