Panasonic PT-43LC14 43" Rear Projection HDTV Logo
Anonymous Posted on Dec 31, 2007

Screen Brightness I recently replaced my lamp on my TV because I had a problem with the unit shutting off at random.The new bulb took care of that problem,but it seems that my picture is still not very bright.I've got it set to the max setting and in the vivid mode.It looks pretty decent in the evening and low light conditions but I think it should be brighter.Is this common for LCD projection TV's? or could there be other problems with it.I've looked at the regular LCD TV's and they seem much brighter than the projection units.

    I think it was Osram if I remember right.

    I am having the same problem right now. The picture has gotten darker and darker over the past month or so and I replaced the lamp (which had actually busted completely the day before my new lamp arrived and caused the TV to power off). I bought the Panasonic TY-LA1000 replacement lamp but not from Panasonic and the picture came back, but the picture is still dark!! Very frustrating. Any solutions out there?

What lamp did you replace it with? Some of the aftermarket bulb sources are not the original brand and do not work as well.

  • Anonymous Dec 31, 2007

    Well, these models from panasonic are frought with trouble. See
    the complaints on this link and you'll get the idea.
    www.consumeraffairs.com/home_electronics/panasonic_lcd_tv.html

    Panasonic isn't the only one with lawsuits against them.

    I think the high voltage power supplies for the lamp is not well
    designed and can't control the bulb voltage causing to commonly blow up
    the bulb or in your case, be low and dim.

I heard a pop on the Toshiba rear projection TV (model #62hmx84) and immediately lost the picture

Sir the problem of your unit is the lamp try to replace it it is much better to use a gloves and wash your hand after replacing the lamp because this lamp contains mercury. follow this steps.
1. Unplug the unit to main ac outlet. Remove the bulb housing cover from the back of the TV. Using a screwdriver, carefully remove the cover to reveal the old bulb. Using a cloth, remove the bulb from the TV by first unplugging it from the wiring harness. Carefully rock the harness back and forth until it comes free from the bulb. Push in the bulb slightly and turn it a quarter-turn to remove it from the bulb housing.
2. Install the new bulb. Do not touch the new bulb with your fingers, as any grease or fingerprint from your hands will damage the tiny mirrors in the bulb. Instead, carefully handle the bulb using the cloth. Insert it into the bulb housing and secure the door. Test the unit. Plug in and turn on your Toshiba TV and make sure that the new bulb is installed properly and that the image looks crisp.

3.
Reset the lamp time counter. Each Toshiba TV comes with a lamp hour meter stored in its software. If you do not reset the lamp timer, the unit may stop operating when it gets to a certain time (refer to your manual because each Toshiba TV is slightly different). To reset your Toshiba lamp timer, turn off the TV, wait 10 seconds, hold down the "on," "menu" and "input" buttons on the remote at the same time, and turn the power back on. A yellow light should appear in the bottom corner of the TV indicating that the lamp timer has been reset.
Hope this help good day and best regards.

Replaced lamp in 55vg825 approx 1500hrs ago & lately the picture has lost brightness compared to when the new bulb was installed. Is there another adjustment or is the bulb defective already? Past...

bjac,

You are correct about lamps working or not, but that is the extremes. Over the course of operation all lamps lose brightness as the hours add up. All lamps will lose their brightness over time.

Typically lamps only last at best 6000 to 8000 hours. That is not long if the unit is used most of the day everyday. In addition the cheaper the quality of the lamp, cost and manufacture, the quicker they go down hill.

Assuming that you have a low quality lamp what you are experiencing is normal. You may be able to improve the brightness and clarity of the picture by cleaning the lenses, mirrors and screen. I have a tip at

http://www.fixya.com/support/r4690955-clean_lense_screen_in_projection_tv

This tip is labeled projection tv but is also appropriate for cleaning an LCD or DLP unit.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

I have a 52 inch sony tv and it says projection lamp is near end what do i need to do?

Buy a lamp and sit on it. Meaning, you don't need to put it in until your old lamp goes. But, it will be handy to have it around for when it finally goes into the lamp graveyard.

Now, couple of things:

* If you don't notice a dimishing of brightness in your set, or your set's not doing the other things bad lamps do (like randomly shutting off your set), you can bypass the lamp reminder message on most Sony sets (I'll tell you how in a second).

* Even if you don't notice a loss of brightness, you most likely have lost a good amount of brightness and your eyes have grown accustomed to it.

How to bypass the Lamp Reminder message:
--------------------------------------------------------------
(works on some sets, not all)

OK, so you have got your new lamp, but you want to squeeze the life out of your old lamp as much as possible. Or, your repair guy came out and put a new bulb in and two days later that message pops up.

Pick up your handy Sony remote.

* Press Menu (or WEGA Gate, on some models)
* Navigate to the SETUP tab (usually by pressing the down arrow; it's usually the last option)
* Press Enter
* Use your down arrow to go to the last option on the screen, and then keep going.
* Find the option that says "Lamp Replacement"
* Press Enter
* Press Yes

Done.

What we've done is reset the Lamp Timer. You will want to not forget that you did this, because you will forget that you are going to need a new lamp. So, buy the lamp first before you procastinate.

And, when you install the new lamp, wash, rinse and repeat.

Cheers

Screen resolutio/brightness

Are you running on battery power or AC power? Some laptops are set up so that they will be dim on battery power.

Your battery could be going south on you.

The other possibility is that either your CCFL or inverter (most likely your CCFL lamp) is failing. They can be replaced for pretty cheap (part is about $5 to $10). The labor is a bit tricky but can be done if you are careful.
