I solved the problem by buying a new DVD player- wouldn't have been able to replace a motor, and repair cost is as much as a new purchase-the times we live in! Thanks for the info which helped me make the decision.

When trying to operate the dvd player it states no read disk when there is a disk in the player

Yes, the DVD player will start with "loading" while it tries to read the disc and figure out what kind of disc it is.

The new-er players will read all sorts of discs, but I have an older one that will only read DVD and MP3 discs.

Any DVD player should be able to load and play an original DVD, but not all will comply if it is a backup copy of your DVD.

If your player refuses to recognize the original DVD, it's time to get rid of it. The cost of repairing it will exceede the cost of a new one.

Dvd player says loading then wrong disc

If it is disc made with a computer, you may need to convert the format to one that the DVD player is compatible with so it will recognize the disc contents.

Sony player dvp-cx850d won't read cd or dvds. need to reset

This is not a problem that a reset will resolve. If you can gain access to the lens, try cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that does not resolve the problem, the spindle motor may be defective. This is the motor that turns the disc. Once a disc is recognized as being loaded, the disc is spun up. If it does not get to speed fast enough, it will fail to read.

The bottom line is that without seeing the unit, I can not state exactly which scenerio you have here.

If the cleaning does not resolve the problem, I would suggest you request a detailed estimate from an authorized Sony service center.

Tray B of my RCA CD Burner does not recognize any CDs

Are you using the correct disc type??

The manual states that only discs that are labeled:

"Compact Digital Audio Disc Recordable" (Audio CDR)

*or*

"Compact Digital Audio Disc Rewritable" (Audio CD-RW) can be used.

The popular discs labeled "Compact Recordable" and Compact Disc "Rewritable" are for use in computers, and can NOT be used on the recorder.

Page 16 of the manual shows the graphic of the logos detailed above. The manual can be downloaded for free below:

CD-17 will not recognize any disc on loading

The disc will not spin unless it is actually detected by the optics assembly. Try claning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that fails to resolve the problem, the optics have failed and should be replaced.
