Motherboard does not recognise new SATA hard drive

I have been running an 80GB EIDE hard drive ok for a couple of years, I have tried to replace this with a 160 GB SATA hard drive but the KV8 PRO motherboard does not recognise the SATA drive whether it is in the computer its self or running along side the EIDE drive. I have installed the SATA drivers from the motherboard disk but no joy. I have read that my bios may only operate up to 137GB so I have looked to upgrade my BIOS but I am struggling.
Thanks for any help.

Is your board an ABIT? If so then here is the link to select your motherboard and download the latest BIOS. Make sure to read the web sites instructions on how to update your BIOS. Let me know if you still have issues.

I have a Fujitsu 80gb Sata hard Drive (2.5) which I have an adapter to use as a external Harddrive. However my computer and others only recognise it as a 14 gb drive. How do I get the full 80gb?

It seems this is caused by setting jumpers on your hard disk. Checkand return it to the correct position. Normally, your disk should be inthe position of Master or Slave.

Western Digital WD800JB internal hard drive. I install it, it is listed in device manager, but not on "My Computer". I have unistalled the device and drivers (IDE primary & secondary),...

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to boot

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your motherboard to your hard drive make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty

Can i make my 80GB hard drive to 100GB? 80GB 7200rpm SATA SAMSUNG

This is not possible, 80Gb is 80Gb and 100gb is 100gb, but I am afraid, even if you like to replace, you'll not be able to get 100gb since it's no a standard Hard disk capacity. If you are trying to upgrade, then you can find 120gb, 160gb, 250gb, 320gb etc... Good luck. Thanks for using FixYa.

How to install secind sata hard drive

It all depends on how many SATA ports are available on your motherboard.
Older motherboards (EIDE+SATA) usually only had one SATA port. In that case I'd advise purchasing an internal PCI SATA card (around US$ 30).
Modern motherboards (SATA + legacy EIDE) have two, four or even six SATA ports available, and you basically just have to screw the hard disk in an empty slot of the appropriate size (3.5"), and connect the cables. You may have to purchase both data and power SATA cables though. Then, format and install the drive (advice: use the one OS you use more often) from Control Panel > Administrative Tools > My Computer > Disk Management. And you're done.

How can I upgrade my e-tower 366is hard drive ?

Of course you can up grade it. Just be sure to get the drive with the correct connections to it. It can be SATA connections which are 2 small plugs in the back of the hard drive that are about 1" to 1 1/2" wide. The other connection would be IDE, it will be about 3 /1/2" wide with another connection that will a 4 pin Molex power plug.

I have a 40 pin ide cable connected to my existing hard drive,i have just purchased a diamond max 21 , 250gb hard drive, which cable do i need for this

You can use your existing 40pin EIDE cabele for this drive, however check your motherboard for a SATA connector, as this drive can run EIDE or SATA, naturally the SATA connection is much faster and I would recomend using the SATA connector if your motherboard is compatible.

Hope this helps

Hard drive

According to http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/desktops/0,1000000973,10004197,00.htm this tower has Serial ATA, or SATA. Just to confirm, you can easily pop open the case and take a look at the hard-drives. If you see a wide thin ribbon-like cable connecting to your hard-drive then you need an Ultra ATA (or just ATA or IDE) drive. It looks like this:

If a thinner red cable connects to your drive, then that is SATA. It looks like this:
