My shredder will run in reverse but not auto/forward. It is completely cleared of jams. Any suggestions

There should be a little leaf switch directly in the middle of where you feed in the papers to be shreadded. It could be jammed or simply bad.

I have a Staples SPL1506X shredder. the power light is on (auto), but when I put paper in, all I hear is a "click" but the shredder doesn't work. There is no apparent jam, and machine is empty. It wo

If you can run the shredder in reverse for a minute to clear any jams that may not be visable. If that don't work it may be a bad relay. More than likely that is why you hear a click.

The shredder was paper jammed

Hi,

Ensure the wastebasket is empty then move power switch to the REVERSE position. This will reverse the jammed paper out of the shredder. If shredder jams again, alternate control switch slowly between REVERSE and AUTO (l) positions to attempt to move jammed paper completely through the shredder. If the shredder jams in reverse mode, move the switch to AUTO (l), depress the manual forward button located on the center of the shredder head and allow to run for five seconds. If jam does not clear, move switch to REVERSE again and allow to run for five seconds.

Repeat this process until jam is cleared. If necessary, turn off shredder and use care to grasp the paper and carefully pull out to clear jam. Once cleared, move switch to AUTO (l) to continue shredding. The jamming may be happening because the cutting cylinder needs to be oiled.

Follow instructions to oil your shredder;

To keep your shredder in top condition, the cutting blades need to be oiled every so often (for frequency, please refer to your owner's manual). We recommend using Powershred® Lubricant or a vegetable-based oil (such as corn or canola) in a non-aerosol container with an extension nozzle.

Caution: Never use flammable synthetic oil, petroleum-based, or aerosol lubricants to oil the cutting blades. Some agents may combust, causing serious injury. NEVER USE WD40.

1. Depress and hold the reverse button down.
2. Put the tip of the oil bottle in the paper entry and make one or two sweeps the length of the entry while squeezing the oil bottle.
3. Move the power switch to Auto (I) position, or depress the manual forward button (depending on model of shredder) and allow the blades to run at least three seconds.
4. Move the power switch to Reverse (R) position and allow it to run for at least three seconds.
5. Repeat steps three and four above at least three time.

Regards.

My shredder stopped working in the middle of a shred. I have cleaned all shredding from it, but it still refuses to run. Is there a thermo cut off switch, and if so, where?

  • Shut off the shredder. Unplug it and let in cool down for up to one hour. This will work if the shredder has stopped due to excessive use.

  • 2

Check to see if the shredder is jammed. This is the most common cause of shredder problems. Click the power switch to reverse, which should clear a minor jam. If not, set the shredder to auto, and then to reverse again until the jam clears.

  • 3

Clear extremely stubborn paper jams by grabbing the stuck paper and gently pulling it out. If smaller pieces of paper cause the jam, shut off the shredder and unplug it. When it cools down, carefully use a pair of tweezers to remove the paper bits.

  • 4

Determine if the power supply to the shredder is working properly. If the power supply is cold, use an alternative source of electricity for your shredder. If it is warm, there may be a problem with the shredder itself. Call your office machine repair shop or the shredder manufacturer for assistance.

Sharpen or oil the blades. Shredder blades need to be oiled on a regular basis to keep your machine in proper working order. Get oil made specifically for shredder blades from an office supply store.

When you put paper in it starts to shred for about 1/4 inch then goes to reverse. No jams that I can see. Can run forward and reverse without paper with no problem. Sensor problem?

No mention of make or model however this holds true for all shredders.... especially if its a "cross-cut" shredder; put some shredder oil onto the cutting shafts where you insert the paper this will help get rid of some of the build-up that occurs due to the shredding process...also give the "eyes" in the middle of the "throat" a clan with a soft cloth( unplug the machine first or it will start to run and take your cloth in.) Occasionaly shrd a sheet of paper with some shredder oil poured directly onto the paper..this will help lubricate the cutting blades. Lastly...only shred up to about 70% of the rated cpacity..this will result in fewer jams an longer machine life.
