I am from theUS. I have imported a PS2 game from the UK (SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos) because it was the only available vendor with this game. When I try to play it on my PS3, it doesn't work because of region restrictions. How do I solve this problem?I am from theUS. I bought the PS3 in South Africa, but can't play Zone 1 DVD on it. It asks me for regional codes. Any advice>I bought the PS3 in South Africa, but can't play Zone 1 DVD on it. It asks me for regional codes. Any advice>
You can make a region-free DVD copy of your region-locked DVD discs. You can try a program called Leawo DVD Copy which can get you a 1:1 DVD copy without region code and the copy can be played regardless of the region code of the DVD player.

DVD players designed for the US are set for Region 1 and cannot be used with DVD's that are from other regions such as Great Britain and most of Europe which use Region 2 DVD's . What you need is a "Region Free" player which plays all regions or a player that plays your specific region. We live in the US but watch many British DVD series so use.a Region Free player as they are Region 2 and we are in Region 1.
maybe you can return the player or at least get some sort of credit for it towards the correct region player. If you are unsure of your region, just Google it.
Please go through the booklet provided with your PS3. It will show you what type of DVDs it can play. Make sure that the South African DVDs you are playing are compatible with the one listed in the booklet. Best is to play Blue ray DVD which are slightly expansive but are regional code free. They can be played on PS3 without any hitch.
I think you wanted to write that you CAN'T watch DVDs or play games bought in Australia on your PS3.
The reason is the region code of your playstation. It only can play Region Code 2 DVDs and games. In Australia you only can buy Region Code 4 media.
You need to buy your media from south africa or Europe. Some blueray-discs are region code free. You can check this on: http://www.blurayregioncodes.com/
As far as I know it's not possible at the moment to change the region code of the play station.
While they may not be region-coded, PS3 consoles and games sold within the United States are going to be NSTC compliant, instead of the PAL format used in the United Kingdom and South Africa. What this means is that in order for any game to display properly (or even operate) it must be purchased from the same region of the world as the console itself - NTSC games can only be played on NTSC consoles.
This may be a problem with your ps3 as they are region free. mine is from china and plays all british games fine and blu ray movies email sony @ [email protected]
hope this helps!!
Report your Video shop to RiSA. They should legally only carry zone 2 DVD's as a rental copy and a sale copy has two different licenses of use. If they have zone 1 DVD's it means they are bypassing the local supply chain (ie getting it outside South Africa) and damaging the industry as a whole.
