Hi. I have exactly the same problem after owning this "camera" for under two years. Happened aftrer only 16mths.I also bought another battery(which I willl take back for a refund). The only solution that has been offered to me came from the supplier who said to buy ANOTHER one. Nice for them!!!!

The camera has several ribbon cables inside, all of which disconnect in different ways! Which cables and why??

i had a camera that did the same thing. on mine there was a little tab on the memory card cover door thing that pushed a little button. i think a piece of the little tab on mine broke off so it wasnt pushing the button so i took a little piece of paper or something and folded it really small and set it on top of the little button thing and then closed the door and that worked for me

First thing to check is that the battery terminals inside the camera are clean (use a qtip and alcohol, or a pencil eraser). Although a battery or power problem can cause this symptom, so can a lens issue. The following blog details the things you can try to fix it:

Since there are tiny gears that drive the lens, any bit of dust, dirt, or lint can affect the initialization of the lens, and cause it to retract.
If you spray out the lens with compressed air, and try the other fixes, take it into a camera repair shop and get an estimate. Sometimes, it's cheaper to just buy a new one, since the cost of repair can be high.
Good luck, and hope this helps.
