Connecting PS3 to wireless internet

I have a new PS3 and tried to connect it to the wireless internet in my apt. building. I can pick up the signal strength but everytime I try to connect to the IP address my test fails. What am I doing wrong or what am I forgetting to do?

It stopped connecting to wireless!

Myra, The PS3 internal antenna when connected to the board, is only a thin protected wire, so it is not the greatest system for range for wifi. However, it would seem the issue you are having is not connecting to the wireless router, but the router to the internet. The PS3 asks after you enter a new connection, if you want to test it. I always do this test and it is valuable. At the top of the test screen, you will see "connection to router"-Pass/fail, then connecting to internet-Pass/fail, then connecting to PSN-pass/fail. Do you have other devices connected to the router you are using? If yes, then you have a more serious problem. If no, then you just have to access the router via PC and set up the correct settings to allow your PS3 to connect to the internet. There are several different routers out there, so you will have to consult the manufacturer to set it up. Just a few key notes here. If you are ok with anyone accessing your internet, simply don't password protect it. And also, make sure that the router is transmitting by making sure it is in"air"mode. If it's not airing the SSID, then no device will pick it up. ^^ I hope this helps, and good luck.

My ps3 wont pick up my wireless noden signal woint let me sign in gives me error code 80028e02

Hi and Welcome to Fixya

Error means there was an issue connecting to your Internet service provider. This happens when your ISP requires you to put in your username and password from the internet browser. Try to browse using your PS3 ans see if you have a message from your ISP or a login page will show up. Follow the instructions and enter the username and password of your ISP. This is not you PSN account login credentials. Contact you ISP you are not aware of you username and password

Im connecting through my neighbor cab only get about 17% is ther anything i can do from my house to boost my ps3 antenna

You could move your ps3 to the wall closest to their house. lol.

Assuming they are letting you piggyback their internet.

1. You could try pointing the antennas toward each other.

2. Another thing you can try it building a can-tenna. Sometimes you can use a pringle can or something similar to direct the antenna signals toward the source in a more focus fashion. I've gotten to it work in some buildings that seem to absorb wireless signals.

3. You could get a cheap router to boost your signal and set it up as a repeater/access point. Some routers do not offer the access point idea but you can flash them with firmware at dd-wrt.com; just make sure you pick a compatible router.

My ps3 would connect to the internet

Try connecting to your router with a cable and see if that is able to get you online.

If it does, then 9/10 its a signal problem.

If it doesn't, then you have a settings problem.

Also, is your router close enough to the ps3 to supply sufficient signal to the console? From my experience, the router needs to be pretty close to the ps3 for it to get a good signal or if you have a wireless N type router. Wireless b/g routers usually need to be very close to their source for it to be fully effective as the ps3 requires.

Need to download a wireless adapter for my Gateway 830gm desktop

Are you sure there is no wireless device in the machine? Picking up a wireless connection in a desktop without a wireless device is a bit of an impossibility. Do you have a cellular device connected to the computer? Some of the cell wireless cards (Sprint for example) double as wireless cards for wifi hotspots. Many cell phones can be treated as wireless modems on your computer. Take another look and post back.

Connecting ps3 to internet

Your wireless router probably has a wep or wpa passcode that you will need to enter into your PS3.
