I have a Dimension 4500 that is obviously a few years old. ... So when I push thepower button "on" now, the light is a constant ... I pulled of the 20-prong conection (to the motherboard) and jumped ... The fan itself can be replaced, if you're good at mechanical projects. .... And the computer started right up. Is the computer plugged in to a known good power source with a known good power cord? Also, make sure the power is fully seated on both ends. When you press the power button are you getting any indicator lights? The power button itself has an LED that will be either solid green, blinking green, solid amber, blinking amber, or off. Do you hear any beeps?

go to dell website and see what those lights are meaning, I can't help with no exact brand and model (Dell - model ....)

It is probabley the power supply is bad the amber light should be green Get yourself another power supply and see if that don't fix your problem

its a power problem. Your power supply is not giving enough power

This is one of three things.

1. Bad Power Supply - Check to see if the fan is spinning
2. Short in the the wiring or Bad piece of Hardware - Check wiring make sure none of it is damaged. Disconnect one component at a time and try powering the PC on.
3.Badmother

Try steps 1 and 2 and if those do not work it is a bad motherboard.

Could be a number of things inside the comPuter. I suggest opening it up and checking all the cables, Cards and RAM are seated properly. In my diagnostics it could be the motherboard on the way out.

If the power light is blinking amber, the computer is receiving electrical power, but an internal power problem might exist.
Try, unplugging the power cable from the pc, and reinsert it, if this does not help try a differnt power outlet, if this dont help, open the computer, take the power Molex conector out of the mother board and try turning it on, if this dont help, take out the Memory modules and reseat them, if this dont work you may want to ring up dell support.

ok - the amber light of doom on a dell means one of two things - either your power supply is pooched - or your motherboard, If under warranty dell will send out a friendly tech to replace them - if not it will cost you a bit. get the price and consider if it worth upgrading instead. Contact your dell rep or dell tech support and see what they say
