I have a RCA DSP3 Camcorder Model CC-422. I cannot figure out how to set the record speed from SP to SLP. We are only getting 2 hours of record time instead of the maximum 6. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is an old Camcorder so not sure if anyone can help with this or not.

SOURCE: Mode for playback of older 8mm tapes using Sony DCR-TRV730 ?

In 1990s Sony camcorder records movie in analog format so playing in digital camcorder like DCR-TRV730 doesn't mean it will be converted in digital format and you can not import file in PC for editing purpose. You will get analog signal while playing back old cassettes.

Regarding SP, LP speed, its decided at time of recording. Camera sens SP or LP automatically in playback and set itself accordingly.

If you want to convert old cassettes into digital format, connect our camcorder to DVD recorder and burn DVD which is digital format, copy DVD files in to PC and do desired editing.

SOURCE: I'm having trouble changing the record speed on my dvd/vcr recorder. I would like to change sp to lp or slp. I would like to record 6 hours on a 6 hour tape instead of just recording 2 can anyone help

We perhaps could have been of use, when you had told us in the first place what brand and model your recorder is. For the VCR part, some recorders do have a setting in the menu, to switch to LP (long play) but not all records have this option. So when the manual does not offer this option, your recorder can't.
When you post the details of your recorder, perhaps I manage to find the specs and will be able to tell you what your recorder can and can't. Give me a day, because it is bed time for me.

I cannot find my manual what is the speed to record on the vcr for 8 hours

Unfortunately, most VCR recorders/tapes don't have an 8 hour option. It is 2 hours on SP (standard), LP for 4 hours or EP (SLP, depending on the unit) for 6 hours. (The slower recording speed usually gives poorer video quality.)

You would need a non-standard VCR cassette to get 8 hour recording. If you do have a tape that would hold 3 hours at SP, then use an EP setting to get 8 hours of recording on your VCR. I don't think I've seen any tapes that do that recording length even when VCRs were popular.

I wish that I had better news.

How do you change the tape speed on the ag-185

Normally the selection is automatic for playback but is to be set when you are recording. So if the menu is selected to switch speed ONLY in the recording mode it can be set to any of these speeds.

This is the same procedure for selecting the quality for the DVR recording speeds.

SLP=6 hours

Dubbing from VCR to DVD

Dont use xp mode. Here are the definitions:
SP is short for Standard Play. Standard play allows you to record information onto the tape the way it was intended, with no quality loss. By default, VCRs and camcorders will record your footage as standard play. On a standard VHS tape, recording footage in SP mode will yield 2 hours of video.
LP is short for Long Play. Long play allows you to record much more information at the expense of quality. It accomplishes this by reducing the speed the tape is run through the VCR. As the tape speed decreases, the quality will also decrease. You’ll notice this effect when comparing a tape recorded at LP versus one recorded at SP, especially after years of storage. The LP tape will appear more blurred, have more tracking and color issues than tapes recorded at SP. A VHS tape recorded at LP can hold roughly 4 hours of video.
EP/SLP is short for extended play. Extended play is similar to LP, but actually provides you even more recording time. EP was primarily used to document long, continuous events without the need to change video tapes every 2 hours. Due to the fact that the video is not of optimal quality, many times this setting was not used in order to preserve the quality of your footage. Tapes recorded at EP usually are the most problematic after years of storage, displaying a wide variety of tape damage symptoms including color loss, audio loss, frame skipping, and tracking issues.

HOW DO I SET DATE & TIME-ALSO GO FROM SP TO SLP

There is a built-in rechargeable battery in the camera and after approx 3 months it will be completely discharged if the camcorder is not used. To recharge: Connect camcorder to wall outlet using the supplied AC Adapter with the power switch turned OFF for more than 24 hours. (To keep the internal batter charged, try to plug the camera in every couple of months or attach a fully charged external battery for at least 24hrs). To set the clock: Set the power switch to CAMERA and then press MENU. Turn the dial to select CLOCK SET, scroll to the toolbox looking icon -it may say DEMO MODE next to it. Then press the dial. Turn the dial to select the desired year, month, day and then pressing the dial to set each as you go. For the tape speed go to Menu settings scroll to find Tape settings (TAPE SET), select REC MODE and from there you can change the tape speed from SP to LP. Hope this helps. I have the Sony Digital 8 Handycam DCR-TRV250 I purchased about 3 or 4 years ago (700x digital zoom etc).
