Question about Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus Silver Edition Graphic Calculator

My TI-84 Plus Silver edition will not turn on. I have tried new batteries and everything, but it just does not turn on. Is there a way to reset it or something although the calculator does not turn on?

Hello,
Here it is from the horse's mouth (TI Knowledge base)

For the TI-83 Plus Family, TI-84 Plus Family:

Caution: The resets described in these troubleshooting steps will cause a lossof applications, programs and data. If at all possible please create a backup using TI Connect™ first.

  1. Try a new set of AAA batteries.
  2. Adjustthe contrast by pressing and releasing the [2nd] key followed bypressing and releasing the up arrow; repeat as necessary. To adjust orlighten the display, use the down arrow.
  3. Remove one of theAAA batteries. Press and hold the [CLEAR] key. While holding [CLEAR],reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. Thecalculator should display the message "RAM Cleared". Release the [CLEAR] key and then press it one more time to remove the message.

Reinstalling the OS fot the TI84Plus

How do I correct the Error Waiting...Please Install Calculator SoftwareNow message on my TI-83 Plus family or TI-84 Plus family calculator?

If an operating system (OS) update fails or is interrupted, the calculator will be in an inoperable state with the message Waiting...Please install calculator software now.The most common cause of a transfer being interrupted is updating theoperating system on a calculator with low batteries. Users will need touse the TI Connectivity cable and the TI Connect software to send theoperating system to the calculator. Make sure to have the latestversion of TI Connect installed on the computer.
In order to install the software please follow these steps:
1. Connect the TI Connectivity cable between the computer and the calculator.
2. Click on Start >> Programs >> TI Tools >> TI Connect >> TI OSDownloader
3. Follow the on-screen directions to reinstall the calculator's OS.
Ifthe message "Error! Press any key to turn unit off. Then turn unit backon." appears on the graphing calculator, quickly, remove one batteryfrom the calculator and reinstall it while the transfer is taking place.

Hope it helps.

Thank you sooo much! I was thought my calculator was broken! I replaced the batteries and it would flash on for two seconds and turn off again. I was freaking out! Your directions worked perfectly on the first attempt! THANK YOU!!

Hi, i was wondering if you can help me with my ti-84 plus silver edition calculator. The problem is that it simply won't turn on, even with NEW batteries. Thank you

1. Check the battery holding area and make sure that all of the connectors are protruding enouugh for the batteries to make a good connection.
2. Check the diagram for exact polarity placement.
3. If still no power, try using you electrical plug for power. The problem could be with a connector and you may have to purchase a new TI.

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

If that doesn't work, add a comment to this post and we'll go from there.

You may need to reset calculator. Take ou the batteries and the backup battery. Leave them out for about 8 hours. Then put everything back in. Hopefully this will work.

Won't stay on.

have you tried manually resetting like the manual suggests? Take out the AAA's only, hold the ON button for 10 seconds and then re-install the batteries and turn it on. If that doesn't work, I have no other suggestions.
