If a speed sensor goes bad your ABS system will not function meaning your anti-locking brakes system, will not pulsate mulitple times if you step on the brake too hard or you hit a patch of ice, Most people hit the brakes hard when they start to slide across the road, however that allows the car to slide even more because the brakes are completely locked. The Speed sensor monitors the wheel and once it determines that the car is sliding it then kicks in and presses and releases the brake very fast and that is while you press the brake once.

97 tacoma runs a few seconds and dies. will stay running if you keep foot on gas for a few mins then let off. crankshaft sensor code, replaced it but still get code. could it be iac or tps

If the code for the crank sensor comes back, then there's still a fault in that circuit. Check for sensor resistance and wiring harness short or open. Crank sensor resistance should be 1,630 -2,740 ohms when cold. TPS would not cause those symptoms. IAC could cause rough idle but wouldn't affect higher RPMs. Bad coolant temp sensor could also be part of the problem. Bad sensor = ECM thinks engine is warmer than it is and provides too lean a mixture. But fix the crank sensor issue first since that affects the fuel injectors.

Speed sensor

It is in the gear box and may be affected by a faulty TCM unit.. Run fault codes to be sure.

97 tacoma vehicle speed sensor location check engine light p0500

On the early Tacoma, the speed sensor is located in the cluster and is driven by a cable attached to the transmission.
Later models moved the sensor to the transmission tailshaft or transfer case and eliminated the cable.
If you do not have a speedometer cable, your sensor is on the transmission.

How to replace a speed sensor in a 2000 Toyota Tacoma

The speed sensor is located on the outside of the transmission case, it has a wire connector going to it. There are other sensors called turbine speed sensors and they are located inside the transmission. It all depends on what problem you have.

My1998 toyota tacoma, while driving it the transmission started slipping. I pulled over shut it of then cranked it back up and it never would shift out of first gear and the speedometer wasn't working.....

Well, since the transmission control module uses input from the vehicle speed sensor to know when to shift gears, and the speedometer also uses the signal from the vehicle speed sensor to know what speed to display on your instrument cluster, I would say that there is a pretty good chance that they are related.

Heater/defrost/ac does not blow in my 2006 tacoma. worked this morning, parked at work, came out half hour later and would not work.

what has most likely happened is that a fuse has blown that is in your blower fan circuit. Check your owners manual, and see if there is a fuse to that system, if there is, check and see if it is blown. If it isn't, then the problem could either be your blower fan itself, or your blower motor resistor. Generally, when the blower fan goes bad, no speeds of the fan work. When the Blower motor resistor goes bad, usually only 1 speed of the fan works. Try the first suggestion i gave, and it everything checks out in the fuse box, then try all of your fan speeds. If one works, you need a blower motor resistor, if none work, then it is most likely your fan. Let me know how it goes and i'll do my best to assist you further. good luck.
