I have done some troublrshooting and I found a way that may fix the problem (cause it fixed my DNS problem) I call my method "DNS Leaching"...don't ask why I have such crappy method names. I thought that since the Xbox was having trouble getting the DNS data so that I just hooked the Xbox's eaithernet directly into the modem, waited a few minutes then hooked the eaithernet back into my router. The Xbox then worked perfectly.

Step 1: Xbox <----> Modem wait a few minutes.......... then Step 2: Modem <--> Router <-->Xbox (or whatever your setup is)

There is an option that needs to be set on your router. I cannot recall the exact setting, but Im sure google can yeild the results. I would also give the XBOX a static address and put that address in the DMZ. Umm... My friend had the same issue, and I will check with him and report back.

After you select either Configure Network or Edit Settings, you will be on the Basic Settings tab, which contains your IP and DNS settings. When you select the IP Settings block, you are prompted to select an Automatic or Manual configuration. If you select Automatic, the Xbox 360 console will try to automatically determine your IP settings from your network or from your modem or Internet service provider (ISP). This option is recommended for most users.

You may have to or prefer to manually configure the IP settings, especially when a static IP address is used. This is necessary only if your ISP has issued a static IP address, or if you have configured the router to issue static IPs (and DHCP is not used). To manually configure the settings, select Manual, and then enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway by using the keyboard on the screen. When the information is complete, select Done.

Dns server

Hello.

Go to network settings in the system tab of your dashboard, then first set all to automatic and try if it works then if it shouldnt take a look at the setting gateway and write down the IP, it should be something like 192.168.1.1 or so, then manually edit the DNS servers in the network configuration and add the gateways IP as primary DNS.

Retry if it works if it shouldnt you will have to get the direct addresses of the DNS servers of your provider to get these click on your start menu button in Windows then look for "Run..." and enter the command cmd and hit enter.
A command line should pop up enter the commain ipconfig /all in it that will list the DNS servers set these up for the xbox as well and retry again.

If it should still not work then something else must be wrong with your connection setup like your router blocking your xbox because you didnt allow it to connect to the internet or so, there are various reasons.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Xbox 360 live DNS test failed

if you are connecting directly to the modem, then you are going to need to get the dns info from your ISP. If you have a router just put the router address or let it find it automatically. Also check that the router has the right dns settings from the ISP.
